I have recently made the decision to return to school, and this has been one of the most important decisions of my life. I have enjoyed returning back to school as it has provided me with both a challenge and the prospect of a career change. Through education, I will be learning different techniques on how to prepare myself in a business environment. I didn’t learn this in my earlier educational life, because I was preoccupied with selfish thoughts about my returning to school, to pursue a career that would best address my needs.
I am now thirty-four years old and have five children. Therefore I have had to learn how to set goals that best suit the needs of me and my children. When I found an on-line college at Ashford University I became excited to join a school that best served my requirements. As I am a single parent I need to work at my own pace, and Ashford looks like it can help me to utilize my time management skills effectively enough to become a business consultant.
My text task is to prioritize my goals of maintaining my upcoming success in a timely manner, so that I can learn how to be an employer in a professional way. Furthermore, I need to have a positive outlook on matters when directed to me, and in this way I will also be able to direct my children when they become college students. Needless to say, I am still learning as I go along. This will never stop, because learning is a part of success that has to be built, and is needed in whatever dreams that you want to accomplish. This is especially true for me, as a parent returning back to school in a totally different field after six years of having no college education.
When planning the journey to my new career, I aim to be the best in my academic classes. As it has been a while since I was last in school, I am conscious of losing focus if I cannot grasp the concept of a particular assignment. I have learned through my past course to stay focused and to not be misled by what I have to do, in order to finish my discussions or assignments. I also learned that I shouldn’t be afraid to put my feelings down on paper, because grading is done according to what has been prepared for the class.
As the grading system reflects an individual’s needs, if I am having difficulties with a particular piece of work, I will receive feedback which will help me to understand the concepts. Therefore, I will be able to amend the errors, and be one step ahead for the next assignment. By attending Ashford University, I can turn my concerns into positive actions by asking for help when I need it. I was on a campus, I would have to study independently with a tutor who was only available during office hours. However, at Ashford, I can have help twenty-four hours of the day if need be. Furthermore, if I want to consult my advisor, I can e-mail him or her and a response will arrive in the morning or later that night. I am happy to have joined a school that will help me to help myself.
Obtaining my Organizational Management degree will teach me how to build up my own project in being my own boss, while maintaining a long term care facility. In this way, I can offer a better life for the people who are in need of shelter for their ill mothers or fathers. I also plan to design my establishment to be beneficial for the resident’s families, so that when they come to visit it will be like a home from home. There will be furniture and appliances available so that they can heat up their meals, and there will even be a kitchen open for them to use. I plan to have only healthy foods at my establishment. After all, when I do finish school I will have choices on how I run my business.
