Abstract
The research presentation on the corporate social responsibility of the imaginary organization Riordan Manufacturing Inc. covers the description of the social initiative to be implemented and discusses the main components of an effective CSR policy. The suggested social initiative is about going green and focuses on conducting energy audit, getting paperless by communication by e-mails and double sided print, saving water, providing leadership and involving employees. The company will benefit from becoming environmentally-friendly due to improved reputation, increased customer and employee loyalty and saved money in operational costs. An effective CSR policy should include such components as business value, building a positive workplace environment and customer satisfaction. Thus, the current values of Riordan Manufacturing Inc. are results orientation, a positive workplace and customer service. We create value to our shareholders by balancing short-term and long-term goals and providing innovative solutions. We build a positive workplace by providing equal opportunities for employees to succeed and creating an inclusive environment that recognizes individual contributions and gives all employees a sense of accomplishment from their work. We improve customer and stakeholder satisfaction with the customer protection initiatives, such as increased quality control and systems of effective feedback collection.
1) What is one social initiative your organization will champion?
Companies, which are going green, have better chances to improve their reputation and develop their brand loyalty. At the same time, the benefit from becoming environmentally friendly is not only about public relations. Going green can also increase the profits of your company.
Based on the above, as a Chief Operations Officer I suggest that Riordan Manufacturing Inc. should definitely go green. In order to become environmentally friendly I recommend our company to focus on taking the following steps.
Firstly, we should conduct an energy audit in order to understand how we can reduce the usage of energy. For instance, we may find out that to save both energy and money we should use the timers, which turn off the lights automatically. We may also decide to replace the existing light-bulbs with energy-efficient fluorescent lights.
Secondly, we should do our best to get paperless. Our first actions will be to encourage communication by e-mails and to print double sided documents whenever possible. As a result, the consumption of paper in our company will be reduced.
Thirdly, we will try to save water by eliminating water waste and monitoring toilet leaks.
What is more, we will provide leadership for going green by purchasing sustainable products and informing our clients and suppliers about going green issues. It is also important to involve our employees in different sustainability initiatives. As a part of this, we will conduct regular surveys to assess going green progress in our company.
I am convinced that Riordan Manufacturing Inc. will benefit from becoming eco-friendly as the customer and the employee loyalty will be increased. As a green company we will also save money in operational costs as far as our water, energy and paper consumption will be reduced.
2) What are the main components of an effective CSR policy?
An effective CSR policy should include the following three components: business value, building a positive workplace environment and customer satisfaction.
Business value is the key point as far as the CSR is not only about what is good for society. The effective CSR policy should deliver competitive advantage and make the business more profitable.
Building a positive workplace environment is crucial to maintain high productivity and low turnover as far as happy employees are more likely to realize their skills and talents. Positive workplace environment is about safe and comfortable working conditions and fair reward.
Customer satisfaction is important because the success of any business is impossible without satisfied customers both now and in the future. Relationships with external and internal customers should be developed in a way to make a positive difference in the lives of such people. We believe that we are obliged to provide safe and high-quality products and services to our clients. Customer satisfaction can be achieved by understanding the customer wishes and realizing them.
Thus, the current values of Riordan Manufacturing Inc. are results orientation, a positive workplace and customer service. In order to create value to our shareholders we achieve enough profit by balancing short-term and long-term goals as well as providing useful and innovative solutions.
