Edmond Dantes would probably had never experienced every suffering from captivity if he never gone to prison. With that thought, he would enjoy his freedom to the fullest. However, that freedom would hinder him the chance to change without those sufferings; he would not have changed as a person of faith and courage and just be contented of what he is and what he has in life to endure. Away from any chances to educate, himself through the help of someone who shared his anguish inside the prison chamber, the chance to see the reality on how he became a captive even though his innocent, and to challenge himself to any possible hardships that would come his way. Being in prison made him a more determined and a strong person in all aspects.
As of his marriage to Mercedes beforehand, well, it would be perfect because they both love each other so dearly and faithfully. However, his friend who really adores Mercedes would not stop to bother them; Edmond would probably not give up for her. They would have children and a happy family. Edmond would enjoy his promotion as a captain, a good father, a good provider, and a faithful husband forever.
Life is full of challenges and hardships. Whatever we experienced in life is a chance to change for the better. Remember, God sees everything, He is everywhere, said Edmond Dantes also known as Count of Monte Cristo.
