Incentives are meant to motive an individual to carry out an activity more effectively. There two types of incentives, positive incentives and negative incentives. Positive incentives such as promotion, recognition, and praise satisfy an individual’s psychological requirements and thus able to result in motivation. Therefore, individuals who strictly value positive assurance of satisfaction can easily be motivated by incentives. Conversely, poor performing individuals are likely not to be motivated by incentives. They usually receive negative incentives. Negative incentives are meant for the correction of an individual’s mistakes to obtain effective results. Such incentives include demotion, penalties and transfer. These result in an individual’s setback. Thus, incentives can be used to motivate some, but not every individual.

Even though money help satisfy an individual’s social needs and psychological needs, non-monetary incentives satisfy better a person’s self actualization and ego needs. It is only better at retaining and attracting individuals rather than influencing the behaviour. Employee’s behaviour is motivated by autonomy. Money however does not provide any greater perceived autonomy to an individual. Equally, behaviour is greatly influenced by employees’ social networks, daily perceptions, and informal interactions more than by money.

Virtual teams allow the team members to perform their duties from anywhere. It allows the recruitment of the people based on their suitability and skills on the job. It is cost effective since there is no money and time wasted purposely for clothing and commuting. The costs of maintaining the office are also avoided since an organization with virtual teams can do without physical office. Essentially, they reduce time wastage and have higher chances of leveraging global talent. However, there is likelihood of social isolation. Also, higher costs of technology may be incurred as multiple technological communications must be employed between teams like video-conferencing.

Strategic thinking framework has four components that answer the questions where, what, how and when to exit. The where questions give answer to where the organization wants to be in the future while the what answers what the organization’s resources will be applied against. The company must point down some external and internal leverage points. The how questions will guide the organization on how the strategy will be executed while the exit questions will show how the company’s strategic success or failure will be dealt with.
