Parents are the most important role models in people’s lives. Essentially, parents help their children to form personalities and guide them to the right path. Often, parents prevent their children from dangers and harm, and make sure they become better people or have better lives than they do. Children cannot reach success without their parents’ help because they are the most important supporters in peoples’ lives.
From The Ditchdigger’s Daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Thornton are very strict about everything with their daughters. In fact, they have set very high standards for their daughters about academics. In Chapter 7, Jeanette comes home with a C grade, Mrs. Thornton asks her to do all the housework as a punishment. However, Jeanette does not understand her parents at first and does not get well with them within a short period.
In the end, Jeanette becomes a very successful doctor, and she credits her parents with her success. Obviously, parents may have different parenting styles, but they have the same goal of ensuring that their children become upright and successful people in life. In most cases, people can hardly reach success without their parents’ input because parents are like the roots of people’s lives. Certainly, parents give tips to their children regarding what they should do and what to avoid, teach them about everything in this world, and wish their children can have better lives.
In conclusion, parents’ role in upbringing children is relevant in determining how successful they become. The parents provide moral, spiritual, social and academic guidance to their children on a daily basis that are essential in making them successful and important in the society.
