Evaluate the costs and benefits (both economically and socially) of using coal, oil, and natural gas. In your evaluation provide pros and cons for which each energy source
The cost and benefits of using coal, oil, and natural gas is that they are less costly and efficient in their use in comparison with other sources of energy such as firewood.
The pros of using coal, oil, and natural gas include the following;
The pros of using coal are that it produces large quantities by products such as petroleum and gases. The cons of using coal are that it is not environmental friendly.
The pros of using oil are that it can easily be transported in addition to its myriad uses (Crosbie 81). The cons are that it results into destruction of the environment after the process of combustion especially in industries.
The cons of using natural gas is that it can be safely stored and burned for domestic and industrial uses as well as reduced cost. The cons are that it is highly flammable and dangerous when handled carelessly.
Describe three push and three pull factors that have influenced the demographic shift from rural areas to urban areas.
The following factors have caused increased demographic shift from rural to urban areas; firstly, employment opportunities in urban centers where people seek their livelihood. Secondly, better social amenities such as hospitals and education institutions in comparison to retarded social developments in rural areas (Smil 120). Thirdly, seeking better living conditions such in terms of environment and cultural factors. However, all these factors are contributed by the need to seek job opportunities which are not available in rural areas. Describe ten things you can do to reduce consumption of water, energy, and or any other resource.
- Reducing consumption of water can be done through avoid wastage especially in tanks
- Treating water to use in agriculture and for drinking by animals
- Turning off power when it is not in use
- Trees can be preserved through a forestation
- Land can be maintained through digging terraces
- Recycling of water
- Planting of trees
- Using bio gas for domestic activities as well as provision of power
- Using solar energy
- Using wind energy
What does the acronym ENSO stand for? Describe the repercussions in weather systems for Australia, Indonesia, North America, and South America from ENSO.
The acronym ENSO stands for "El Nino Southern Oscillation”. It is used to describe the condition where the warm ocean water temperatures in the western coast of South America develop off resulting into climatic change across the Pacific Ocean (Glantz 36). The repercussion of this climatic change is linked with extreme weather such as floods and droughts in countries such as Australia, Indonesia, North America, and South America. It also affected various economic activities at the pacific coats such as agriculture and fishing. It is associated with rise in temperatures at the coast due to climatic patterns oscillations at the coast.
