Eating disorder denotes an illness that results to several disturbances in an individual, and it would be described as serious mental illnesses. Many nutritionists and doctors believe that it was not a diet gone too far or a lifestyle choice. The condition happens either when one eats a lot of food or subtle amounts of the food. The habit of eating a lot or less amount of food might start as a habit, which grows slowly and then turns to be a great problem. One of the things that might signal the eating disorder was a concern about the body weight or even severe distress. Some of the eating disorders include binge-eating, bulimia nervosa and anorexia disorders (Comer, 54).
There was evidence showing the presence of eating disorders in the United States of America. One of the evidences was the research carried on by many organizations. Those deferent groups have come up with lots of solutions that might help in the control of the illness. It was discovered that there are deferent types of eating disorders. It, therefore, shows that there was an illness in the United States and that was why there were lots of the research over the same (Comer, 66).
I would suggest that obesity be considered to be in a category of the abnormal behavior. The reason was that most of the causes of the illness were not discussed. They include; social/dieting pressure, adolescent, gender and genetic reasons. Such causes are clear and treatable, and most of them have a cure. That was a clear indication that the illness is a normal kind, and it did not defer from other diseases.
According to the statistics, most of the patients suffering from an illness would be reluctant to face a psychiatrist. The best recommendation would be to provide a family doctor before treatment takes place. That would help on bringing a good relationship between the patient and the doctor. There were deferent types of treatment that were recommended to this type of illness. Some of them are; Therapy i.e. Cognitive behavioral and Dialectical behavioral. Others included family Maudsley family therapy and separated family therapy, Behavioral therapy, music therapy and cognitive-emotional behavior therapy (Hartley, 173).
