In the article of Shane (2013), a former U.S. soldier named Eric Harroun, who served the army for three (3) years, is now accused of rendering assistance in the Al Nusra Front-led attacks on Assad forces. According to the report of Shane (2013), Al Nusra Front is suspected to be an affiliate of Al Qaeda terrorist group which originated in Iraq. Harroun was charged of conspiracy of using destructive devices outside of the U.S. territory and the penalty for such crime is life sentence (Shane, 2013). Harroun did not disclose his engagement to terrorist activities because he has actively posted videos on YouTube by speaking in front of the camera with a statement that “Bashar al-Assad, your days are numbered” (Shane, 2013). He has also posted a picture in his Facebook account with the caption saying “Downed a Syrian Helicopter then Looted all Intel and Weapons!” (Shane, 2013). Such actions indicate terrorism since these series violent activities explode during a peaceful period. Harroun was later arrested for his involvement with the terrorist group.

Religious terrorism is the deadliest form of terrorism. In the article of Wright (2010), he considered that the act of Faisal Shahzad who attempted to blow up a grenade in Times Square as a part of “jihadi intent.” The author believes that region is a major influence of terrorism, such as in the case of Shazad, who regarded his religion “jihadism” as the prime mover of terrorism (Wright, 2010). Based on the report, Shahzad’s personal life will show that he lost his home to foreclosure. According to the jihadist ideology, the motivation of Shahzad to kill people in Times Square using a bomb is to take revenge against the American military action in Pakistan (Wright, 2010).
