Before I was introduce to the topic of homeland security, I thought it was a type of security which involve each and every individual’s homestead could not think of national security because of the word ‘home’ which means where people come from. This is most part which confuses me most. But I could figure out that it is something which involve the national government therefore I expected the government to be participating actively in it. Furthermore, the term was confusing since there is connection between homeland security and terrorism. One can think that it is the protection of the land from internal attacks. (Dale, J.2010).
Anyway way after learning a bout this term, I came to realize that it is an umbrella term of America which refers to the national effort to prevent terrorists from attacking the United States. (Dale, J.2010).The main aim is to reduce the possibility of America from being attacked by terrorists and hence reduce the damages which might occur because of the attacks. The confusion of the term affects professional responsibility and public expectations if it is not taught to everyone. Otherwise after learning about it, one understands and works towards achieving its goals.
The pat down type of security screening at the airport take a lot of time before it is carried out. It cannot deal with the high number of people at the queue since it is done by using the hands of the security officers. Some people are not submissive to this process since they are sensitive to touch especially in the lower part of their bodies. Moreover, this process must be carried out by the officer of the same gender and Sometimes, passengers must wait for an officer of the same gender to become available hence waste of time.
Other solutions include screening by imaging technology or a walk-through metal detector. (Dale, J.2010).The one major danger which might exist because of denying people their freedom because of security is that one might decide to enter the country while carrying explosives at the entrance and blow out everybody in order to get an access to a particular area.
