Labour of Love
It is important to note that different health care professionals would have a role to play in the lives of Gerard and Tracy in order to improve their quality of life. I want to focus on the role of a nurse in helping improve their quality of life. The expertise of a nurse is important in guiding Gerard and Tracy towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It is important that both of them maintain a high level of personal hygiene if they are going to function optimally and live quality lives. A nurse can teach Gerard and Tracy how to maintain their personal hygiene by way of taking care of their body.
The nurse can also give specific advice on how to arrange their house so that home accidents are avoided. It is also important to note that being able to take care of them properly would also enhance their self esteem which is an important source of motivation for Gerard and Tracy. Apart of enhancing their self esteem, Gerard and Tracy would also feel a sense of personal accomplishment if they are able to take care of themselves properly. Maintaining a high personal hygiene standard would no doubt promote healthy living as they would be less prone to illnesses and thereby focus their energy more on other ways of improving their lives instead of worrying about health issues.
In line with promoting a healthy lifestyle, I agree with Sarah’s contribution that Gerard and Tracy would benefit from the services of a dietitian. It is important that Gerard and Tracy eat a balanced diet in order to maintain a healthy body, which is also necessary for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
