1.) You are the network administrator for a new company that has 10 users and plans to add five more users within a year. The files need to be accessed by all 10 users and each user must have different security rights. What kind of network would you installs and how would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define each component.
This is a client/server network type since it constitutes two parties whereby the one party is the server and the other party is the client to whom the service is being offered to. This is a type of network that provides an effective and efficient way of sharing resources and data in a given region. The network administrator would go with a router to the region of the ten clients and install a wireless card into their computer systems. All their systems would be connected by a single router. This network type provides resource sharing services to the customer and maintains provision of a centralized network security for its clients (Regan, 2006). It is also resource saving and thus is appropriate for the future use where there would be high population. In this type of network, the data files are centrally located on a server who offers the networking services to the clients and thus referred to as the client server network. The client server network gives room for a backup of those files through a centralized system. The Windows that perform under such a network type include: Windows 2000 server, Windows 2003 server, Novel Netware Networks and Linux.
2.) You are the network administrator for a company that has a peer-to-peer network. How would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define all of the components of this type of network.
The pieces and components of peer-to-peer network service are related to each other in a way that all computers of peer-to-peer network uses are used for sending and receiving information. In this case, the systems are equally connected and served by the network service. The users of this network service who are both the sender and receiver of the network services are equally served. There is open architecture that shows that specification is made public by the designers (Regan, 2006). This enables one to design products based on the architecture and design add-on products. Network service; send the real information needed through the presentation layer which moves until it reaches the physical layer meaning that the information is sent on the network media. This is a case of what happens in institutions that have connected their systems to use the peer-to-peer network type.
3.) You are the administrator of a client-server environment. What kind of network would you installs and how would the pieces and components of this network relate to each other? Define each component of a typical client-server environment.
The most effective and preferred network type that would be recommended in such a case of client-server environment where by the clients would be served by the administrator by installing a wireless router to help in network serving. A wireless network card would be installed in each client’s systems and connect their systems to the network. This is a more economical type of network system that is preferred in a case of a high population. This is a network type that provides networking services to the client while providing a decentralized network security. This network type provides a high level of security to its users unlike other networking types. It uses a hub to connect and link together its clients (Regan, 2006). This type of network would use a star topology where every network service is connected to a point that is centralized. This is a network type that is easy to install and manage by requires a long time to install. This centralized point that forms a hub would constitute of a multipoint repeater, concentrator and MAU.
