Hello everyone! I am Kamie Quijano and I am standing in front of you today for the fulfillment of the final requirement of our Public Speaking class. First of all, allow me to thank you, Mrs. Malarkey for all the assistance that you have given me during the duration of this class. Thank you for your encouragement and patience in helping me become a better public speaker. Secondly, I would like to extend my gratitude to you my fellow classmates for the positive feed backs which I received throughout this course. Your relevant critiques have not discouraged me but instead inspired me to better improve my skills on public speaking.
Like most of you in this course I am also in the military and found this course to be very beneficial. As you are probably aware, there are several times when we in the military are asked to speak publicly even to our high ranking officers. This course will prove to be very valuable in the course of our career. Speaking publicly has always scared me and brought butterflies in my tummy. However, after completing this course, I am more confident to speak in front of an audience.
The topics that we discussed in the course all contribute to my new found confidence. I realized the significance of determining one’s purpose before making a speech. Prior to the course, I was not aware of the factors that play a major role in the effectiveness of a speech. Taking the audience’s profile in consideration when formatting a speech is one of them. Furthermore, I learned that even my attire, posture, tone of voice and non-verbal gestures all contribute to the value of my speech.
In conclusion, I can say that this is one course which I do not regret taking. I know that throughout my career, I will be making several speeches and this is one investment that will surely have a big impact in my life. I am sure that you, my fellow classmates, also feel the same. Once again, thank you Mrs. Malarkey.
