Vividly, it is the right of the employer to make sure that employers are at work without drug in their systems. The fact that there should be privacy pertaining drug use isn’t a guarantee for workers or employee to report to work with drugs in there systems. The employer definitely has power over the employee when it comes to the work place.
If their is an ethical area in the work place in which the employees can differ with the employer, it’s the area of drug consumption. Many are the workers who report to work with alcohol in their systems which is absolutely against workers personal philosophy.
A number of most critical problems in the world of business exists in the present society, drug and alcohol been one of the leading. Estimates as to the effect of drug and alcohol use have been given. According to the estimation about $30 billion is lost every year in the are of production as a result of drug use while $60 billion every year because of alcohol (Harris, 1992)
Safety is another effect that employers should have in mind when creating drug and alcohol use policy. It is highly possible for a person who is under the influence of alcohol and drugs to cause error or problems in the work place depending on the kind of job. Such mistakes can be costly to the company since they can result to accident or even death of other workers in the worker place.
It is the duty of every employer to create very strict policies which he or she must reinforce concerning drug and alcohol use in the work place. Companies or employers should arrange for a system that will enable them to detect chances of a capable employees turning up for work or using the substances in question. It is really expensive for accompany to hire unethical employees.
A couple of reason as to why each and every other company would like to apply the issue of drug and alcohol screen testing programs exists. For instance the company will be up against drugs and also promoting a working place free from drugs. The employer will also be protecting workers and consumers in the wider society. Another important ethical issue would be to circumvent health care costs met by the company as a result of problems caused by drug and alcohol use.
The only best ethical issue that will not be costly to the employer is to advocate for 100% drug free working zones and this would increase productivity.
