Learning new information constitutes a sense of enlightenment on the things, ideas and perceptions that wasn’t before in my logical consciousness. Furthermore, the new information has provided me a new outlook in the field of marketing that is considerably crucial to my success in this field of study. The new information learned is about the way developers create mobile games to illustrate segments and strategies, which was made to create better revenue streams for a business. For example, mobile phone consumers switched to smartphones with a capability to run complex games that are only available in console games back in the recent years. These mobile games were created to provide more value to mobile phone consumers. It is surprising to know that gaming capability of smartphones is now part of critical standards that consumers look for in choosing their next mobile device.
It some way it has an effect on my personal view of product value both as a mobile phone consumer and a marketing student. This is because my prior perception about mobile gaming is that it was created to extend the entertainment function of mobile phones. However, as I was drawn further into learning the principles and logic of marketing I was able to realize that mobile gaming for this matter is a form of product value added into existing commodities to increase its marketability. The effect of this new information opened me up to the importance of value in marketing because without which products would not product development and innovation. It is important for the business to continuously develop its products in order to meet market demands and changing market trends. In some cases innovation encompasses competition in the market. For example, Android enabled smartphones was able to compete and at some point surpass the sales performance of iPhones built on iOS firmware. The current market trend reveals a tight competition between Samsung phones and iPhones. Apparently both brands sell mobile phones, but what makes one top the other despite the similarity in their line of product is the level of innovation they put into their existing products.
Given the examples, mobile gaming, which is a major feature in the aforementioned brand’s added value to the products and sets a chain of effects on the business itself. Learning new information and studying marketing at the same time enabled me to arrive at this realization. In addition, the new information learned about mobile gaming as product value entailed an effect on me in terms of understanding product and business perspective.
