The Religion Implicit Association Test (IAT) that I completed gave me varying results about different religious views. The results favoured Christianity and Judaism, but they discredited Hinduism and Islam, which shocked me. The test left me with mixed feelings regarding different religions. I felt a little motivated, surprised, aggrieved, and confused at the same time. I also felt challenged to do further investigations in the field to unmask the mystery of religion. I was offended and surprised because I grew up in a culture that taught me that all people are equal irrespective of their religion. However, the research made me feel like Christianity was a superior religion and Islam was a lesser one.
Furthermore, I grew up to believe that I have no low feelings for Hinduism, but this study has contradicted with my belief. I still believe am like any other person irrespective of the fact that some people in my culture view Islam as a lesser religion. The test arouses many questions within my conscience on whether or not to believe the idea of existence of differences in respect to religions. The stories of some Islam assassins killing Christians made doubt the test. I often hear people say that Islam is not to equal Christianity and that Christianity has many good things that Islam does not have, but I am convinced that perspective is likely to be biased. The IAT persuaded me to embrace the notion that Christianity is superior to Islam; however, I am not fully convinced because the test is questionable.
Most of the people in the society believe that Christianity must reign over other religious affiliations, but they fail to consider the number of people lost in search of this ultimate superiority. In essence, a group of people believe that religions should be equal to each forgetting the consequences of pronounce commitment of protecting one’s religious stands. I appear a little gutted by the fact that the test put Christianity at the same level with Judaism, a feeling that I never saw as a reality. Perhaps this was because of the suffering that the Jews and Christians both went through to assert their way into the American life. From my point of view, the story of the young girl whose assault by the Muslims appeared because she was a life sympathiser of the Jews. This motivates me into abandoning some of my prior beliefs. It is apparent that choice rules the decision that we take religiously; however, we need to be warned biased religious attitudes.
