The concept process involves the idea of following the essential process in ensuring the concepts regarding the issue are highlighted and covered. After getting involved with the idea of waiting, researching and its connection in our heritage and religion, also the fact that waiting for people usually not understand the life definition of it and the emotional process, it is rather an inevitable process that is necessity than roughly noteworthy.
I stepped into a moment when I felt engaged with it. I thought of making a piece of art that voice out the moment of waiting, feeling of the once waiting and the position of the one who’s keeping someone waiting. I literally grabbed my pencil and started scribbling, trying to portray both parties, who waits and the one who is keeping someone waiting, in a manner that deliberate with one’s self and each other.
Allegory
An allegory is a literal device which depicts characters and events in a visual, literal or musical art which represents concepts, ideas and opinions, the device bring the feeling of the information shared among the groups and the use of it kin literature which brings bout the understanding of local issues. Creating stories has always been part of my art work. As I work I get more engaged in my drawing when I have fragments of a narrative traveling inside my mind. It triggers the moment I grabbed my pencil and started drawing.
In my senior project the story I created has a blend of the old days of pearl diving and the emotional states of waiting for a beloved one to be back from a dangerous life line journey. I choose to create scenarios in my head of what happed and what is happening to this family. As the mother is trying to hide her fears of facing struggles in making a living after the absence of the father and how much she is afraid that her daughters would feel the same ?, I focused on making her pretend to be strong as she is raising her head and lighten up for her daughters. The boy took a step ahead to follow his father’s steps in contributing for his family and protects them. His eyes have no hesitation but full of hope and strength. As he is holding the lantern that was illuminated by his mother’s light, as she points at the young boy who works day and night to provide a good living for his family. It’s a narrative that voice out a beautiful struggle and a hopeful waiting full of positive beliefs and love.
The figures
At first I started focusing on the four female figures, but mostly concentrating on the most important figure that is the mother play a vital role in light and illumination. In my own thoughts the mother does essential chores by watching over the children and protecting them.
The mother pose shows her ability to protect, guide and watch over her young daughters while waiting for her husband to come back pointing to her son with her lantern to give him the light which this time has the courage to take his father’s place and provide for them living along with taking care of his mother and young sisters. The mother’s eye is not shown as she is almost a complete silhouette leaving only her dress with the presence of lines and details, the purpose of this is to indicate that the mother is hiding her sadness from her children and instead she is presenting strength and hope to them with her steady stand and a raised head, in which it shows hope and a believe for a better tomorrow. The young boy drawn in a pose that emphasizes stepping forward or contribution to his family and his expression describes his wish of keeping his younger sisters and mother to feel alright as though the father was around. The sisters; one of the sisters is a semi- silhouette and that was done in a purpose to indicate that she is too afraid to express her lack of hope that her father is coming back. While in fact the other girl who has her image drawn in detail is patiently waiting for her father holding al “Dokon” a traditional scent burner that Emiraties use more often on Friday due to the fact on Fridays concerning the Muslims and traditionally for Emirati and gulf people is a sacred day that we tend to get dressed well and neatly and have our selves dressed with beautiful scents such as Dkoon and Aud.
The old man who was their father was presented in a large scale above the normal requirements and was placed in a corner where one of the girls was looking at him. The scale represents the father’s important role in the family and in particular my personal experience with my father. Having him in a complete silhouette, takes us to wonder what he feels or what is his position at the moment? Black is the unknown and the unknown is what people crave to know the most. That is the reason why I believe my piece will drive people to interact with it and deliberate n the matter.
The light and shadow
The light and shadow played a very important role in my space as it is postulates a major impact in creating an atmosphere that is affective to the audience, in creating a beautiful scene I ensured the issue is achieved. The reason why I used one source and left it to deliver in my space is my belief that light comes from God and thanks to this light we gain we are able to pass it down to our beloved ones. This light is a source of my life, hope, warmth, protection and a lot more. The literal situation brings about the thrilling effect; hence one chooses what one considers as ingredients essential in literature.
Conclusion
In conclusion the essence of the use of the art and architecture in the concept and process the family issues arises and gender role that depicts various expectations from the society at large. The role of father can be taken or exercised by the gender that is in place and concerns of the person being celebrated upon. The concept and the process expound wider areas but in our case the case analysis is deployed. Family concerns are essential and should be addressed and remedies given. The techniques employed in the writing of the article indicates the importance of ensuring responsibility is often desired and held with high dignity, the social n gender issues concerning women cover up the better part of explaining the process.
