People started committing crimes as early as hundreds of years ago. These crimes began as minor offences that got transformed into more complex and extravagant ones. In the year 1992, the need for a more robust ad reliable form of crime rates and statistics that would help in protecting the people prompted for the intervention of International Police Chiefs. The formulated ways of establishing statistics made it possible for the authorities to know where there was need for more staff, security and personnel for the sake of the safety of the public. It was until 1930 that the FBI was settled for to come up with ways of collecting, publishing and even archiving the collected crime statistics.
The FBI, after being charged by the aforesaid responsibility, came up with classifications that would measure the fluctuation of crime rates and the overall volume of crimes in the National Atlas of the US. The classifications generally include crime index, rape, murder, robbery, burglary, larceny theft, aggravated assault and theft of motor vehicles. There was also a new index added to the classification known as arson. This was added in 1979. With these useful statistics, officials were better placed to determine how effective the new laws and programs were as well as gauging the effectiveness of officers and procedural changes in operation. Even as the reports cannot give a 100 percent accurate result, the statistics serve as a good reflection of the reality on ground and a warning to the public for them to see the need to have their security beefed up.
The uniform Crime Rates system that was designed by the FBI has done quite a remarkable job in reporting crimes. The system has been able to identify what type of crime was committed, when it happened, who perpetrated along with a couple of other sensitive information as can be required by the investigative bodies. This essay will lay focus on Dallas, Texas and give a comparison of rates of crimes in Plano. The population of Dallas is slated at 318,857,056 while that of Plano is slated at 278,480.
Even though Plano registered a higher population rate compared to Dallas, a look at the UCRS for Dallas indicates higher rates of crime and more violent incidences. Dallas reported 9, 161 violent crimes in the year 2010 while Plano only reported 459 crimes in the same year. Broken down into individual crime categories, Plano registered 4 murder cases, 80 rape cases, 156 rape cases, and 219 assault cases. In Dallas, a total of 1197987 cases of crime were reported. They went as per the following breakdown: murder cases were reported at 14, 249, rape cases were 116,645 while robbery cases were slated at 325,802. The assault cases in Dallas were reported at 741,291. This is by far a ripple drop in the ocean if we are to compare these against the rates in Dallas. If the figures are not anything to go by, then serious conclusions can be drawn from these findings. This is a clear indication that crimes were either reduced or that they were never reported in Plano by the concerned authorities.
With the advent of new technology, it is imperative that governments up their war against crimes and also be able to corporate with other agencies like the FBI and special units in developing solutions and applications that can help arrest these issues. The authorities can also pull together with the community in documenting crimes and in sending of important Intel on those perpetrating crimes.
Conclusively, crime rates for Plano, Tx for rapes seemed to increase gradually over the years, until 2013 when the rates skyrocketed to 84 rapes. Over the years from 2001-2013 rapes seemed to increase by 8-10 rapes a year. In Dallas, Tx the amount of rapes was at an excruciatingly high amount. Although Dallas, Tx rapes were high in number, the amount of rapes reported over the year seemed to have fluctuated. Dallas had the highest counts of rape in the year 2006 at 665 rapes that year. I believe that depending on how bad off the neighborhoods are can really make all the difference in the amount of reported rapes. I personally know of some cities in Dallas that even Police Officers don't like to set foot (Oak Cliff). If we are not regularly patrolling the areas in the city with the highest crime rates, we will not be able to get those rates down. Those rates will continues to increase until we do something to prevent it.
