Criminal background checks in society are very important, and they can determine the behavioral of an individual. For example; if someone has a habit of drinking or driving, and they do not learn from their ways, it may be necessary to do a criminal background check, in order to see previous activities that the individual may have been involved in. More importantly though, when it comes to criminal background checks, there are times where it may be essential to demonstrate a scenario, as this may help determine how the individuals, or various individuals, would handle a criminal background situation that involves an offender. For example; let’s say an offender has a very violent criminal background history, which involve sexual assault, aggravated assault, and use of deadly weapon. However, let’s say we also had someone with a criminal background who history involved things such as theft and robbery. For these reasons, each case would be handled differently. Now, according to each scenario, LSI-R should be applied to the offender who is more known for being a robber, because it will help people to understand his way of thinking better. As Flores (2006) says, the LSI-R applies to criminal assessments based more on the mindset of the individual, and not the actual crime (p.1). However, as for the OASys, it should be applied to the aggressive offender known for the assault charges, due to the fact that the offender needs to be classified on a deeper level, because of the severity of his crimes against others. Over, the tests would fit very well with each offender trait, and while it may not seem like it as first, there is always hope for someone to change. Now, as for some of the other views of the students, I disagree on their stance that some people are beyond rehabilitation. While it is true that people who are disobeying the law need to want to help themselves, everyone deserves a second chance. In closing, both offenders have different behavioral patterns, and because of this, each offender should be addressed differently and handled differently based on the crimes that they have committed.
