Criminal instinction is on the rise especially in the current world. This is perpetuated by the influence of media in the society. What people do not understand is that what is acted in the movies is mostly fiction or fictitious and cannot be done physically. The great impact of digitalization of the world has brought about so many injustices on the real world. Most people now try to relate what they see in the fiction world and at the end; they find their goal plummeted and the repercussions for that becomes very nasty. Media has brought about social injustices such as prostitution, theft in high levels and many other criminal activities that we see emerging in our day-to-day lives. The following report is a combination of ideas on the impact of crime presented in the literature and the films that are either realistic or unrealistic in the societal context. Moreover, it will further analyze the truths or misconceptions of crime and its heavy influence on our perception of crime. Lastly, the report will review four movies namely: Dexter, Breaking bad, The Departed, and About rose.
The above named movies have really perpetuated the increase of crime in the society, as it depicts that crime is no big deal as compared to our perspective of how bad crime is in the society. The movies enhance the criminal activities of people and shows approaches that people can employ in order to curb this menace. This notion has really propelled young people to indulge into criminal activities as a lifestyle. Other has been ushered into the drug world, because they see from the movies that that is the trend of young people in the street nowadays.
Breaking bad
Ideally, drug and substance abuse has become a nuisance to the young generation as it reduces the mental capability of the person to think logically and critically. The supporters of this may say that it generates income; however, it has adverse effects on the people who take it. Taking an example of “Breaking Bad Season One’, we see that after a remarkable chemistry teacher finds out that he has terminal cancer; he turns to cooking and dealing with crystallized meth which is provided to him by the treasured one.(Manos, Michael, Julie,Jennifer,Erik, Vélez, David Zayas, Remar, & Jeffry 21). This indicates the level of moral decadence in the society. Everyone believes that a teacher is the second parent to the student after the biological father and mother.
Conversely, the remarkable teacher uses his dexterity and expertise to open an enterprise whereby he indulges in drugs. He sees it fit to do this in the name of providing for his loved ones not knowing that behind the scenes he is destroying someone’s life. In the normal context, most people in the society take after this renowned teacher. They indulge in unspeakable things in the name of providing for their loved ones. This is not justifiable because there is no basis in destroying someone’s life in order for the other to be satisfied. This continues with more crimes being unveiled as the movie envelops. The enumeration of forth season made clear by the dominant characters, Skyler and Walt. The duo have generated their monies through other dubious activities and one notable one is to gamble and take part in suspicious activities among many other crimes that are shown in the movie (Scorsese, William, Brad, Brad, Graham, DiCaprio, Matt, Jack, Wahlberg, Sheen, Winstone, Farmiga, Anderson, Baldwin, Michael Ballhaus, Schoonmaker, Shore, and Mai. 26).The characters in this movie use more crimes to cover other crimes in the society. These impacts negatively on the lives of most people as one may see this as a good basis of learning how to indulge in crime and try to evade using another crime. After Guy Fring’s apprehension, he decides to kill in order to mask the naked truth of how he got the money.
Dexter
This is the same situation as in the series Dexter. Morgan Dexter is a homicide forensics police officer who moonlights as a serial killer and believes he cannot be caught. Dexter kills so many people and then covers the stories because he is the lead detective in these cases. This drives him to believe that he is above the law and does not care a thing but continues killing. In is not until he is caught up with a very powerful assistant District Attorney and the press is on his neck that he realizes that even the press is too deep for him to bribe it all. This indicates the lack of commitment in the line of duty of many “be likes” of Morgan Dexter in the real life situations. Most people who are in power try to follow the footsteps of Morgan Dexter(Scorsese, William , Pitt, Grey, King, DiCaprio, Damon, Nicholson, Wahlberg, Sheen, Winstone, Farmiga, Anderson, Baldwin, Ballhaus, Schoonmaker, Shore, & Zhaohui 36 ). They indulge in drug and substance abuse. Involve in sex trafficking and many other types of social crimes. This is a misconception in the society that one can go scorch free without being caught. This has caused so many great people the opportunity of bettering their lives and those of others around them.
The Departed
The movie “the Departed” also depicts how the media have influenced the real world situations. The detectives in the southern part of Boston are upping their tactics to combat the challenges related to criminal activities. Other noble detectives are working tirelessly hard to see to it that the situation in the country is brought to normalcy. The two officers namely, Constigan and Frank are the anonymous security personnel who were commissioned to bring all this illegal activities to halt. This has influenced especially on the young people who have gangs on the streets. They send their fellow gang mates to go infiltrate the other gangs; as a result, if they are caught they are killed or stabbed leaving them with fatal wounds. This has caused an increase in the criminal activities in the society because of trying to emulate certain traits seen in the movies.
A rose for Emily
The movie “A rose for Emily” is about a reclusive unmarried woman who slowly spills past the boundaries of sanity. According to Gilligan, Karen, Dave, Bryan, Anna, Mitte, Paul, Dean, Betsy, and Cruz recreate the ambiance of Faulkner’s south and the inbred eccentrics of his characters. In this movie, Emily who is a mentally challenged person is framed for committing murder and she is left to walk away scorch free (19). The family of the deceased does not feel the judgment is appropriate and go ahead to bribe the judge so that usher can be found guilty of murder. The judge accepts and Emily is convicted. This shows the unfair scenes of how cruel the world can be to those who have nothing (Gilligan, Karen, Dave, Bryan, Anna Gunn, Mite, Paul, Norris, Brandt, & Raymond 34). Corruption in many parts of the world is becoming a major pandemic and is really affecting many countries. This movie influences people that taking bribes is no big deal and that giving bribes is the best way of receiving favors.
Literature and films have really affected negatively on the human society (Reef 17). The peace and tranquility, which once reigned, is not there. Many unrealistic things are depicted from the above movies. These have influenced many to get away from what they were taught while they were young and have adapted to the wrongs in the society.
Conclusion
The movies have propelled the misconceptions that it is right to do certain things such as indulging in drug and substance abuse as seen in the movie breaking bad. Some people get gratification through killing as depicted by Morgan Dexter in the movie Dexter. The involvement of people in Gangwars has resulted to great loss of life. The situation is augmented by corruption as seen from the movie “A rose for Emily”. The truth in this movies is that they try to pinpoint the errs in the community which we are supposed to correct, but it is our own perception of them that the policies are bent and we see the movies as learning grounds to engage in criminal activities.
