In the modern competitive world, need for high performance in production has become very crucial for an organization to attain its goals and success. Leadership and management have a very big impact on the performance the subordinates in an organization. The need for proper management and leadership techniques has been developed.
The country club style is less concerned with production and majorly concerned with people. Managers who adopt this style concentrate on the comfort and security of employees. This management style hopes to improve performance through providing employees with security and comfort. This style provides a friendly environment. However, this does not necessarily increase production.
The produce or perish style gives more concern to production and less concern for employees. Managers offer adequate benefits and wages and expect increased production in return. This method usually uses punishments and rules to pressurize employees towards attaining organizational goals. This style is attributed to McGregor’s type A manager.
The middle of the road style seeks to balance between production, organizational goals, and their subordinates. Through this method, managers usually seek to use this balance to attain acceptable organizational performance.
The team style has a major concern on both people and production. This method encourages team spirit and commitment towards achieving organizational goals. This method seeks to make employees feel like they are an integral part in contributing towards attainment of organizational goals.
The final style is the impoverished style .This style assumes an absence of leadership .The manager is positioned low in matter related to both production and the surbodinates.Such manager is described as ‘’seat holder’’.The manager does the work of collecting salaries but does less to justify this.
