According to Schlosser (3), an award winning journalist, in the complex article, Flak Over 'Fast Food Nation' US, he has noted that fast food industry has grown in the recent years. The industry has impacted on the nation’s economy as well as contributing significantly to the nation’s revenue. Most importantly, the production of cheap meals in the fast food restaurants has enabled the busy families; with limited time to prepare daily meals access to ready made foods. In deed the contribution of the cheap meals, ready to consume and well packaged food has lured many and the industry is poised to grow even more. In fact its contribution in the employment sector has been praised since only little formal education is needed for one to get a job.
Nevertheless, I tend to differ with Schlosser’s, because fast food industry has done much damage to our economy than any other industry. To start with, it has increased the high school students’ dropout rates due to ambitious pay. In addition, the industry is contributing extensively to the child labor malice, thus making the fight against the vice very difficult. Of course I don’t dispute the fact that it has led to growth in the country’s economy together with employment, but I totally disagree with the contribution of the industry towards child labor.
I can’t change my position on the devastations caused by the fast food industry, because it has also resulted to increased consumption of unhealthy foods, which are high in bad fats and cholesterol. Thus, after long periods of consumption it promotes chronic and lifestyle diseases like diabetes and obesity. My stance is withstanding, the fact that the author studied many current articles and journals including Amazon.com publications, as well as using acceptable language and factual reporting.
