Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time, according to Krause (2009), is a situation where the clock is advanced in order for people to enjoy daylight for a longer period. People are able to enjoy sunlight at their own convenient time during the day, either early in the morning or later during the day.
I think it was a brilliant idea to start this program. It enables people to maintain their normal schedules and still be able to enjoy sunlight. People do not have to wake up early in the morning to enjoy sunlight but can have their own leisure time after work. It also leads to increased productivity since laborers work for longer periods of time during the day.
It has both positive and negative effects. Ironically this project was to reduce the amount of energy consumption but things turned otherwise; the consumption instead increased. This has also caused an increase in energy consumption in homes such as the increased use of fossil fuels like gasoline. Positively, Daylight Saving Time has led to the reduced consumption of electricity. Countries exercising DST use natural light and hence the consumption. I think that this project is beneficial since it has helped countries to spend less money on their electricity bills.
DST has caused health problems which ironically were supposed to reduce according the developers of the program. Heart attack problems were supposed to be reduced by the sunlight but it turned out that the rates of this problem have increased just after the beginning of DST application. Due to increased hours during the day sleeping hours have been disrupted. People are not able to rest enough and so the body is not able to recuperate. It causes stress, general tiredness and may also lead to depression. I think this project should not be introduced due to the side effects.
The writer has clearly helped us to understand both the advantages and disadvantages of DST. I think that this project should not be started since the benefits are more than the problems of the program.
