Grief
Grief is an emotional state of a feeling of sadness created by the loss of something or someone that a bond had been created with. One of the reasons behind this loss is the death of a person. Deaths may occur due to various reasons such as accidents, acts of violence, and war. In the event that death results from the three activities listed above, the grief experienced in each situation has similarities and differences.
When death is caused by acts of violence the grief involves feelings of sadness and anger. Sadness is due to the loss of the person while anger is a result of the perception that the deceased’s life was cut short abruptly. Those affected by the death feel that the deceased could still be alive if they had not been killed; this is why they have a feeling of anger.
Death caused by acts of war invokes feelings of sadness and desperation. This is because acts of war are associated with loss of lives and hence when death strikes people feel desperate that they have no control over the circumstances causing them grief.
Grief may also occur when a person dies in an accident. The grief here is similar to the other two events discussed above in that there is a feeling of sadness. The only difference is that there is a feeling of surprise as the death was unexpected.
As can be seen above, grief when a person dies due to an accident, an act of war or violence is similar in that there is a feeling of sadness and also regrets that the person is dead. The grief is however different in that when death is caused by violence there is feeling of anger, when caused by acts of war there is a feeling of desperation, and when caused by an accident there is a feeling of surprise.
