Conveys seven habit bench mark can be used to enhance an effective leadership. Effectiveness is doing the right thing at the right time. This habit helps one to identify the strengths in an organization and requires an individual to have a self inner reflection to improve his performance. When a manager applies these habits in their leadership roles they enhance the development of greater levels of one’s motivation and resilience. The habits bench mark enhances a three hundred and sixty degrees assessment of an individual and the other counter parts. Effectiveness is measured and the actions to be taken highlighted to enhance personal development.
The covey’s seven habits benchmark are discussed below on how they can contribute to greater success in an organization. The steps from one to seven includes the following, being proactive. This is how one is prepared for, gets involved in and controls an expected situation, most likely dealing with the difficult ones. This is the taking of initiative. An individual has the power to define the mission’s values and statements, set clear goals and strategies on accomplishing the goals. Responsibility and accountability are also achieved to improve performance resulting to positive outcomes.
Beginning with the end in mind is another habit. One must focus on the problem he is going through before planning for the future. The mission statement must be defined and the targets aligned according to the goals. This prevents deviations which might occur during accomplishing the set standards. Road maps are clearly set to provide directions. Put the first things first is the third habit. An effective manager must give a priority to the important things first. When the planning tools and the management skills are used, strategies for success come out in the best manner.
Think win-win.as a manager one has to develop a team which has the ability to act first on any imposed problems. One must also give a chance on the employees to express their views and allow a room for their initiatives though this needs a sacrifice on personal vanity to the manager but it results to efficiency in service delivery. The established teams are encouraged to co-operate so that they can build better relationships and create a safe environment for their business. The cooperation of the team encourages shared responsibility and the initiatives are taken.
The fifth habit is seeking first to understand and then to be understood. To enhance this habit the top management must ensure effective communication through all levels in any organization. The barriers to effective communication have to be dealt with to avoid conflicts. Proper communication builds a mutual understanding between all workers and their supervisors. The view points are communicated in an effective way enabling assigning of tasks to individuals and avoiding confusion that arises due to information being distorted.
Synergy is also of great importance. It’s the co-operation of two or more individuals to increase the productivity. When people work together they tackle problems that arise and share ideas on decision making. The differences among people are valued and this promotes innovation which has positive actions in management. Strengths are also defined. The last habit is sharpening the saw and includes daily improvement in the tasks which are performed by people.
