- Most students are able to integrate kinematic learning styles, if they are kinematic
learners, into other learning styles as this may be their dominant, but not only, learning style. Students that learn through the use of manipulatives also are able to integrate auditory and/or visual learning strategies as well. Evaluation and assessment strategies are most often aimed at auditory and visual learners at these learning styles represent most students. Often, multiple choice, true and false, and fill in the blank types of questions are good assessments for these learners. Open-ended responses are usually stronger points for more creative thinkers in the class.
- It is important to review the results of the assessments and evaluations to ensure that the
responses to the questions are not missed by the majority of the students. If a particular question is missed by most students, and particularly if most students have the same wrong answer, that particular question needs to be reevaluated to ensure that the wording is not misleading, that the answer key is correct, and for any other potential area of bias in the question. If any is found, and the question is skewed in any way, it should be eliminated from use and the scores recalculated. It is also a lesson for the person preparing the test so that the person can identify why the question was not legitimate in an evaluation to reduce the potential of such a mistake in the future.
- Technological tools can be used to evaluate and assess learning outcomes through the use
of student created illustrations, presentations, and creations such as graphs, reports, power point presentation, and other media devices. Students are drawn to using technology and by enabling students to use this medium to express what they have learned, many are more confident in being able to demonstrate their true abilities and knowledge.
