Globalization is the word that we get to hear every now and then, whether its technology, politics or any other issue of national or international importance, the progress of the same is addressed with the word globalization. What is globalization? Does it only have positive effects? These are a few questions which are regularly under debate and are important or the nation to understand. In this paper we would look at the various perspectives of globalization, and there will be a structural analysis to understand the impact on and of globalization considering various political, technological and philosophy context.
The most common perspective of globalization in terms of people and culture is related to highly westernized society, consumer culture and individual identities. There are many who would say that globalization is nothing but a further extension of Western imperialism and it comes along with a combination of globalised capitalism to provide a society with a complete package of next level westernized social structure.
Globalization is also about diversification of a particular cultural concept from the host country to the other parts of the world, it is that it's a continuous cycle where expectant of a particular culture increases and reaches various other geographies. For example the American culture has been seen two over par the cultures of various other developing countries and is gradually being practiced over there. Another major impact of globalization is that, it adversely impacts the sustainability of the traditions which were practiced over generations and therefore fades the actual identity of a society, community or even entire nation.
Globalization: As a part of modernization . . .
There are multidimensional aspects that need to be considered, while looking at Globalization as a part of modernization. As the technology, economy, communication, polity and culture advance towards the next level, globalization also takes place simultaneously. It is not that something can be followed directly, however reflects with the lifestyle and can be noticed with the improvement in all the above listed aspects of the living conditions.
Industrialization and Institutionalization are also seen as modernization however these are closer to globalization as they are replicated across the world and gradually reach different geographies, which means that modernization takes place and then it gradually transfers to various other places and the same is then termed as globalization of that concept, the interlink-age between these two is easily visible from the above discussion.
Australian Politics and Globalization
We have already seen that how culture and modernization play a role in globalization, and now it is time to also understand that our politics impacts globalization and what other factors which need to be considered in order to gain a positive outcome from globalization. If we start from scratch, we must look at the policies that have been into existence since the Australia's political history and development of Federation in 1901, the concepts of domestic politics, sovereignty and democracy have enabled the people of the country to work together for their development. The politics and the constitution are for people, by people and with people, the idea is to empower the nation to develop itself and become successful. It is the politics of the country, that takes various decisions related to social, economic and technological development, not only this, the politics which is then in existence also have the responsibility to ensure that the terms and the other countries in the world are adequate and peaceful.
Negative side of Globalization: An international perspective. . .
Whatever we had discussed till now, highlighted the positive impact of Globalization of social aspects and vice-versa, however it is time now that we also look at some of the issues that are being faced internationally due to this.
Noam Chomsky, the USA academic recently commented by saying that “articulate public opinion is basically calling for blood”, this was his comment about the owner of Wikileaks Assange, who has been criticized by the government for owning a website, that is responsible to lead out secrets of biggies across the world. Now, it’s the development of media and globalization that an issue does not remain restricted to people who are directly associated with the same however with the globalization people across the world show interest in information that may even not be related to them.
Similarly, there are a lot of issues like the transfer of weapons, to disputes on technology sharing its etc., which are just because of the globalization that has penetrated every sector of the society, there is no doubt in the fact that it may have played an instrumental role in the development, at times it has created issues which are showing negative results and we may expect similar results in future as well due to the concept of globalization. The importance of globalization is understood by the people, politicians and technocrats however it is important to apply a selective approach in terms of the appreciation of globalization as despite the positives there are other factors that need to be considered.
