In fulfilling their mission and vision, companies require their employees’ input to help achieve the set goals and objectives. The effort and dedication that the employees put in their work depends on the kind of treatment they get from the company. Companies that appreciate their employees and recognize their contribution to the success of the company are likely to have a high yield and increased growth rate due to the efficient performance of the employees. Employee motivation requires that employers fulfil the employee’s needs and expectations of work and providing a work environment that meets their basic emotional drives (Tracy 10). Traditionally, companies have always used methods such as compensation and benefits packages as indicators that they value their employees. However, with the development and change of the workplace environment, companies have initiated innovative strategies that enhance value for their employees.
Many companies are offering their employees vacation, holidays courtesy of the company. The company ensures that all expenses and travel requirements are catered for and ready for the employee. The package is inclusive of the employee’s family as they also affect the manner in which the employee performs his/her duties. These vacation holidays are meant to offer relaxation to the employee away from work and to help the employee concentrate on his personal life. In most companies, these vacation holidays are mandatory for all the employees, and they take place annually (Cameron and Pierce 52). The aim of the vacation is to provide the employee with a piece of mind that is projected upon returning to work, allowing the employee to fulfil his/her duties at work.
Companies add value to their employees through showing concern for their personal lives and helping them with personal matters that might affect their performance at work. Hence, they are offering child day care services at the workplace for those employees with children. The daycare facilities have reduced employee turnover rate and absenteeism by almost a half increasing the productivity of the company and employee efficiency in delivering services. Recently, companies are allowing their employees to grow and expand their knowledge in the business field. They are doing this by providing employees with the training and opportunities to further their studies. They are offering scholarships to their employees, allowing them to grow and improve their lives.
In addition, through involving the employee in the decision and policy-making of the company is a form of adding value to the employee. Recent studies show that employees are enthusiastic about their work when they feel that their opinions are appreciated during the decision-making process. Due to their direct interaction with the work and operations of the company, employees should be allowed to have a say in the decisions relating to the progress of the company. Finally, as a way of adding value to their employees, companies have developed team building activities where the employees and employers get to interact in a different environment aside from the work environment. Team building is a great strategy aimed at showing the company’s interest in the employees personal and social life. These innovative ways, when used appropriately and alongside compensation and benefits packages, increase the input and performance of the employees that helps them drive the company towards achieving its set goals and objectives (Romero and Kleiner 15).
Hi Cynthia,
Despite sharing the same innovative strategies, I still found your work very impressive. Your explanations have expounded more on the ways of adding value to employees that I had mentioned. I was surprised at how many innovative ways there are, which companies can employ to motivate their employees. Personally, you did an excellent job as it is evident from your post.
