In the light of the past terrorist attacks in Paris and the attacks on the Brussels Airport and the metro, experts have pointed out that the internet might have been involved in the planning and strategic plan out of the attacks. The terrorists had been planning on through online means, and jihadist talk had been exchanged over the internet. This called for some serious steps to be taken in order to control and check the kind of conversations and interaction people had in areas to see whether any extremist and terrorist agenda was being conveyed anywhere.
With this in mind, cyber security could have been strengthened after the Paris Attacks so that the network of terrorists planning online could be caught. The main focus in strengthening cyber security is to keep a check on the emails, phone calls, video calls, and messages sent through any online base on the internet and to read through them in order to check for any terrorist content (Jason, 2016). The world is exposed to many cyber crimes, and cyber security became a major issue. Hackers were misusing other people’s information and data, committing crimes like identity theft and revealing personal information to the world (Jason, 2016). Therefore, the world turned to the encryption system that protected people’s identity as well as their personal information and data which was hard to trace even by professional hackers.
However, had this measure not been implemented, the cyber experts might have been able to track down and trace the messages that were being exchanged, and all the extremist conversation and agenda would have been unraveled easily. Cybersecurity, in this case, would have helped the authorities to trace any suspicious online activities such as tracing the map of the airport or checking the exact locale of the metro (Jason, 2016). Loosened security and lack of encryption could have prevented, and possibly stopped the attacks in Brussels.
