Abstract
The assignment will be giving us knowledge about the movie Dances with Wolves and its physical and cultural landscape. It will also be helpful in understanding the different elements used in the making of the film.
Physical Geography : The physical landscape shown in the movie represents nature in a very non-exploitative way. It was so because that was the time when Euro-American had just started to settle in the areas of the Native Americans. Since the Natives were simple and more attached to the products and other aspects of nature, they even maintained it. This was very well shown in the movie. Further, the movie was shot not only in the United States of America but it also depicted Sioux Well that is located in the country of China.
Cultural Geography : The movie depicts the Native American culture. The film still goes far in bringing a depiction of Native American society into the aggregate awareness of predominant America. The screenplay advances a more prominent comprehension, acknowledgement, and sensitivity for the Lakota society. There are numerous scenes inside the film that appear to help this thought. The humankind of the Lakota individuals and the familial obligations of tribal life are made open through these minutes additionally. I am thinking particularly of the various scenes in which “gift giving” is seen.
Elements that did not fit in the movie : The story in the film was told by a white man so it was definitely from a Eurocentric view so it was quite biased. Death was very symbolic of the movie. It had showed that Indians died but the truth is that Indians have not died in the actual history. This is probably the biggest drawback of the movie.
Opinion : The movie was overall very well directed. It was able to depict the grievances of the Native Americans to a certain extent which was quite touching. It was worth watching. I would recommend everyone to watch this wonderful movie at least once.
