About the organization
Prevent Blindness is a non-profit organization, which draws the public attention to the problems of eyesight. This is a volunteer-driven health community, which urges people to preserve their sight before while it is still more or less healthy. By investing their time and efforts into community, they gain support and bring more attention to the importance of healthy eyesight. This is an Ohio based organization and it has already influenced more than 800,000 citizens about the best pays to protect their eyesight.
About the audience the organization serves
The organization serves a rather wide audience since possible eyesight problems can hit anyone: starting from kids, going on through teenagers and all the way to adults. The earlier they get to a person, the more chance that he or she will take care of their eye sight from early on. However, parents are also an important target audience as they care not only for themselves, but also for their children. Generally, everyone who does not take enough care of their eyes is the target audience of the organization.
Goals to achieve on Twitter with content calendar
The main goals that “Prevent Blindness” will try to achieve through Twitter will be:
Raise awareness to the importance of taking care of your eyes and sight,
Promote the “Feel the Darkness” event to increase the amount of visitors,
Encourage people to post their stories,
Provide valuable information of how to take care of your eyesight properly.
Kinds of content that will be used
There are several types of content that will be used on Twitter. However, each post will consist of three elements: texts, media (picture, video, link to article), hashtags. Each of the posts will be one of several kinds:
Information post about the organization,
“Feel the Darkness” event promotion,
Interesting articles about sight,
Interesting facts about eyes,
Tips for taking care of eyesight,
Random popular fun images to entertain.
In addition to posts created by us, we will also participate in the social life of Twitter through our profile. We will comments on relevant tweets and retweet interesting tweets made by others.
In general, we plan about four posts a day (one in the morning, one during lunchtime and two in the evening) and 1 retweet. However, more retweets are possible if interesting content is found.
80/20 strategy
For the published content, we will follow the 80/20 rule. Approximately 80% of our tweets will provide tips/information about how to take care of your eyes and why it is important. As raising awareness is the main goal of the organization, this should be the main strategy. Some of the tweets will be tied into the “Feel the Darkness” event. The other 20% of the tweets will cover the rest of the planned types of content.
