Cultural Influences
Introduction
In this paper we will look through such things as influences on engineering, architecture, and language (and everything that is in connection) form different cultural groups. I choose those influences, because they are the most visible for a normal human being. What would we have without engineering? Poetry? What about architecture? Those things are surrounding us everywhere. The manner we speak, books we reed, buildings we are living in, every aspect of life is full if those statements. And here I will show what had we taken from Romans, Islam’s, Judaism, and Christianity.
Romans
Engineering.
Romans had influenced engineering all over the world. Roads, and canalizations, aqueducts, what are working already for many thousand years, are used right now in different spheres of improving life of the modern people. By analyzing how Romans roads were done, different organizations are trying to repeat this all over different countries, and I am not saying anything about army engineering (tactics “turtle shield” for police, or rams) that are still used in modern wars, and conflicts. Romans engineering are surely great even today.
Architecture, sculpture and painting
Architecture, sculpture and paintings are also strong part of Romans that influences us today. The way how architectures were acting with the marble by creating sculptures, are still secret. We do know that architecture styles of stairs, columns, and roofs are still use by modern designers when they are trying to show greatness of something. While sculptures were strongly developed in Rome, paintings were mostly done on the houses and on the household’s items (and we can see people who are using this even today).
Language
The language that Romans used were Greek, and this is not surprising. And due to that Roman Empire had grown to extremely big territory we can conclude that many influences were done by them on everything that is considered as culture. Romans “Aeneid”, is one of the most significant epic/heroic story of that time, and even today people are using their style of heroes creating, and the way of writing even today. Bible and many historical documents were written on Greek language, and if today you want to work with them than you should know this language that was spread by Rome.
Judaism
Engineering.
Judaism had interesting story. Through the many hundred and thousand years they were running away persecuted by the enemies, but now when Judaism followers are finally settled, as a nation with this religion who are calling themselves Judaists, are given new and new inventions (most of them are or to protect life, or to fight and protect land). We do know that right now they are improving life saving medicine methods, and keeping improving their own protection, and as we know all this will go over to any country who cares about themselves.
Architecture, sculptor, and painting
We do know that this is something that Judaism can be proud with. Even thought, their regular houses cannot be suggest as a great, but they under an impact of religion had created great temples, from some of the books we can find out that the highest point of the temple (where Jesus was tempted) ”The highest point of the temple.Historian Josephus tells us that the drop was some 450 feet ” (Albrecht Matthew 50,), and also we can see the way how this temples were decorated. And they are doing them same now, and by doing this they are also inspiring modern architecture.
Language
Judaism languages were old and today we do know it as Hebrew. Many literature and medicine books and articles were written on this language. Since this was the language that they were using to identify themselves, they were trying to save as more as possible on their difficult way and this makes us in using this language and literature even now, after many thousand years.
Islam
Engineering.
Islam religion had taken under its wing such engineering creations as coffee producing, different varieties of pottery (which are actually beautiful), and also many inventions in case of military (different types of metal), new weapons like trebuchet, and sort of torpedoes. And currently we are using all those inventions today, even if we had modified them.
Architecture, sculptor, and painting
Architecture decisions that were made under Islam can surely surprise us. We can found results of cones building style all over the world. The way how people are building their houses are also interesting. No windows outside, only 4 walls and cute garden inside and for sure with some Islamic symbol and water as a decoration. They had started really private style of house building. Sculptures are not so popular, but it can be changed with the different ornaments and style of glass, metal, ceramics, pottery production with unusual reach paintings that are popular even today, and are used by designers allover a world.
Language.
Arabic language is used by Islamic. And since there are many followers of this language, we can say that this is doing a great impact on us even today. Omar Khayyam is also one of the most respectable and knowing author in modern world. And great amount of different medicine and philosophy tractates (Avicenna).
Early Christianity
Engineering
Under this religion many great inventions were done. Different methods if building creation were done, many different inventions in fortification, food planting, and other were created under the influence of early Christianity, and we are all this using in modern world. The planning’s of the cities, and actually logistic management that were used in early times (every 30 miles castle so you can rest), are developed and used today.
Architecture, sculptor, and painting
Architecture is one of the most significant under early Christianity. We can visit Ukraine today, and take a look of such influence. Lavra Cathedral which is more than 1000 years old. In Europe hundreds of ancient churches and beautiful cities, that had begun under Christianity. Even though that the sculptures were no that popular that time, but I can say that paintings were greatly used. Frescos and mosaics that are part of “paintings”, today can be only copied, because it is hard to repeat this greatness.
Language.
Language as a literature is actually main part here. Under this influence many great songs and literature creations were written. Christianity was full of epos and they were spreading this all over the Europe. Many great countries had chosen this religion as the main one, so the influence on the language style surely was done greatly. Many poetry based on Christianity, many literature what formed languages of people that time.
Conclusion
Romans were great and they gave us many great ideas, Judaism had many problems in terms of peace, and because of that we are facing late results, Islam had many beautiful esthetical things that we can use even today, and Christianity still influences us with fresh results of previous deeds. And there are many of such things for us to see. And we should be grateful for what they have done.
