The best way to be able to make the right decisions in life is to know the true values and goals that will lead to one’s career path (Linder 1). Making wrong decisions in life are consequences of poor judgment. In fact, even leaders make bad decisions occasionally for their failure to use the sound decision-making methodology. However, there are cases when gut instincts will help us make the best decisions in life. People who make the wrong decisions in life are brought about by oversight, impulsiveness, misunderstanding, manipulation, or other negative influences that can affect the sound decision-making framework (Myatt 1). The first step in understanding how to make great decisions in the case of leaders is to know how to synthesize the information that has to be dealt with.
In one of the episodes of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Season 1, Will was struggling in history class while trying to understand the importance of equality of rights. In this episode, the moral lesson of the story was taken from the Malcolm X quote which states that “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those people who prepare for it today.” Thus, applying this in life, it means that students should work hard to earn good grades because it is their ticket to having a bright future ahead of them. Making a conscious effort to study harder will give them the chance to earn a slot in the best universities and earning a degree.
Aside from making the best life decisions, it is important for us to know how to get into the right jobs to make money, create a budget plan, being independent, managing one’s finances or how to pay off credit bills and car loans, and solving financial problems (Cohen 2).
In another one of the episodes of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Season 2, Will was hospitalized and during his stay at the hospital, he made a new friend named Max, who was his elderly roommate. The character of the elderly roommate was played by the late Milton Berle. Will did not have the chance to say goodbye to Max because he died while he took a medical procedure. Thus, the moral lesson of the story is that people should never take old friends and new friends for granted because you can never tell the last time you will be with them. It is important to see the worth or value of friends and families because they help you become the person you are today. Treasure every moment and chance to say thank you because you will never know what happens in the future. It is vital to never let the past rule your future. Sometimes, making wrong decisions in life will make us better persons because you stand up after you fall and will make you stronger.
Being positive in life means that never having to anticipate the worst events that may happen. This means that being able to consider the possibility of negative events that may happen in our lives. Thus, it is best to look at the brighter side of things and hope that the worst will not happen. It is better to face the challenges in life, such as loss of a loved one, divorce, medical problems and even accidents. There are times when inevitable things may happen, such as wrong financial decisions resulting in a market crash, increasing house prices, and downfall of the stock market. Sometimes, many people are excited they make quick decisions that they fail to take the time to perform a simple due-diligence (Zenger and Folkman 1). As they say, haste is waste so it is important to take time and conduct due diligence to avoid making mistakes.
The majority of bad decisions arises due to the failure to develop a strategy. It is vital to come-up with a strategy in order to think out of the box and to see that there are several alternative solutions that make sense. One significant life lesson to remember is never to be too complacent. There are times when over-dependence can lead to wrong decisions. When you wait for another person to make the decision on your behalf time is wasted while anticipating the result. In most cases, indecision is even worse than choosing the wrong decisions. Thus, one of the keys to make the right decisions is to take risks.
In fact, some of the people who are fearful-stricken are the ones who lack self-confidence. Some people who make good decisions eventually become bad decisions because they do not know how to communicate their decisions. Being able to express one’s thoughts before making the decision is a successful approach to life (Zenger and Folkman 1). There are instances when people are forced to make a decision under pressure. The expected outcomes turn-out to be poor decisions when made under extreme time pressure and lack of important information. Therefore, the key to making the right decisions is to have a positive outlook in life and hoping for the best results.
