The Yorkshire Tea’s American Adventure is a one minute television commercial selling the Yorkshire Tea brand. The general target audience for this ad is men and women who like to drink tea, with a wide age range. Although it can be said that for young people who do not have any purchasing power, it can influence their parents or guardians to buy the tea for them. Therefore, the commercial can appeal to everyone.
The commercial revolved around a little van travelling the different states of the USA looking for Brits to bring them proper tea. The main message of the commercial is that the Yorkshire Tea brand makes a good tea and is favoured by British, who are renowned for liking their tea. The advertisement implies that other brands of tea are not very good and wherever the British are, they still prefer the Yorkshire Tea brand.
The language technique used in this commercial is very direct, with the claim that they are rescuing the Brits in America from terrible tea. The main voice over for the commercial has a Yorkshire accent to validate the product. They also made use of personal testimonies from British who are in America who claim that they have missed this kind of tea and the Yorkshire tea is the proper cup of tea.
The commercial was structured to appear like it was a simple road trip looking for British people in various states in the US, to bring them Yorkshire Tea. The use of British actors or actors with British accent and also including their testimonies as to how proper the tea is and how they missed it, also adds to the validity of their claim that British like the Yorkshire Tea brand compared with the other brands.
The commercial showed the van travelling in the various states in the US, looking for British individuals and offering them a free cup of Yorkshire Tea. The different sceneries that they have shown are very attractive and guaranteed to catch the attention of the viewers. They also showed the tea being served hot on cups that were also branded with Yorkshire Tea. Somehow, this makes you want to taste the tea and make a cup yourself.
The individuals were shown to be drinking cups of tea and enjoying them very much as well as providing comments as to how good the tea was and expressing their delight to have the tea at that moment. The commercial focused on showing the Yorkshire Tea brand and logo via the van, on the box and on the cups where people drink their tea from. The phrase that they often used, let’s have a proper brew, directly implies that Yorkshire Tea is the kind of tea that is preferred by the British and it indirectly suggests that it is the best tea available. There were no texts shown during the commercial, except when it finished. At the end of the commercial, the phrase, “Let’s have a proper brew”, was also displayed, along with the invitation to find the brand on Facebook as well as the Yorkshire Tea brand. This is a great way to remember the product and also a great way to entice people to visit their social networking site.
The commercial is engaging because it has a different story in that it’s not just about serving people tea, but the main focus was on the little van which travels to look for British people to serve them tea. It makes you wonder if the van will travel somewhere else after it travels to America to serve more cups of tea. The use of personal testimonies and use of British actors are very convincing, as they are known to like their tea, which also implies that the Yorkshire Tea brand is a trusted brand by the British. In that sense, it will influence other nationalities to buy this tea. In my opinion, it is a very effective advert which will convince people to try and buy the brand, no matter what their nationality is.
