Communication is very important to today’s world because it is how we pass information to one another. In the past, people were only able to send letters to each other, and these would often take a long time to reach their destination. Then, telephones were invented and people were able to talk to each other instantly from afar. Now, in today’s world, people are able to email each other from anywhere in the world and it can be sent and received in an instant. Because of the instant nature of email, it has completely changed communication. There are many differences between email and telephone communication.
The big difference between phone and email is that when you communicate, phone uses the mouth and email uses your hands. On the phone, there is not enough time to filter everything that is said. During a conversation, it is hard to filter what is said on the phone because the thoughts can come out very quickly. During an email conversation, there is more time to filter what is said. The words can be added, changed, and deleted without the other person seeing the revisions. This is a major difference between phone and email and it has definitely changed the way people communicate.
These changes can be both a good thing and a bad thing, depending on which way it is looked at. A person might be able to get their point across better in an email because they have time to figure out what they want to say. But, at the same time, something’s may not be understood in an email because it might not come across like it was intended to be. In an email, it can be difficult to get your point across exactly, because there is no way to “say” the words a certain way. Sarcasm, for example, is one thing that might not be understood in an email.
Whether we like it or not, email is here to stay, and it has drastically changed the way people communicate. Email has let people communicate instantly to other people who are all over the world. Email has no boundaries because anywhere you can get the internet, you can read or send an email. Because of these major differences between telephone and email, communication has changed forever.
