Personal Statement
My experience and education have certainly shaped who I am today, and will define what I can bring to the table as I join the ranks of students at Texas State University. Whether one is talking about my academic success or simply my goals in life, admission to this university is very important to me. Though my life has been full of trials and tribulation, I am still currently employed and highly motivated to succeed. If anything, I am more motivated to succeed because of the difficulties that I have faced.
I graduated from Clear Springs High School in 2015 and have since been enjoying classes at San Jacinto College, the local community college. Academic success is proven in my history, and my tenacity for hard work is unquestionable, as I currently hold a job at HEB while attending classes. Texas State University is the place I feel I can get the most out of my education as it has a great standard of excellence in the categories of academics, sports, and art. I feel that attending this college would give me the opportunity to excel in my academics and better myself as a person overall. This college’s community is something I would absolutely love to be a part of.
My life has been one that is full of challenges, as my parents divorced when I was very young and though I wanted to get a scholarship for soccer, I have broken my foot twice now. These difficulties have not held me back though and, if anything, have made me a stronger person, more capable of facing adversity and overcoming it. If there were never challenges in life, life would in fact be very boring. This is a concept that I hold dear to my heart and which helps me through the most difficult of times. These difficulties have certainly lent their hands in shaping who I am today, but they do less to define me than my goals and expectations that I place on myself.
In the semesters that follow my enrollment in your fine school, I am intending and hoping to earn a letter grade of at least B in all of my coursework. This minimum 3.0 grade point average will go a long way in helping me achieve my long-term goal of eventually also graduating from McCoy School of Business at Texas State University. In fact, it is my intent that I should graduate with a minimum grade point average of 3.5. These compelling levels of academic success should lend themselves well to obtaining an internship toward the end of my academic career, which will help me gain the connections and knowledge necessary to set up my future career.
In closing, I am an ambitious and motivated individual who will not be held back by adversity, and who can accomplish anything I set out to do. Attending this school is important to my success as an individual and in the career path of my choice. This school’s exacting standard of excellence makes it highly attractive to someone like me, and its programs and community are things that I would love to be a part of. The fresh challenge and opportunity that this school represents for me are just a few of the reasons that I think this school is right for me. Not only is Texas State University the right school for someone as dedicated and talented as I am, but I am the right person for Texas State University.
