Dependence of man on environment
The current world’s concerned is the environment where every living and non-living things live. Pollution has been taken as one of the biggest problems we have in the world but people don’t take it serious. We have witnessed a lot of climatic changes due to pollution which mostly affects the surroundings. Due to industrial revolution, the environment has been polluted by the waste products from these industries and factories (Turk, 2011). There are many good ways of preventing and controlling such wastes products from interfering with our environment but people have ignored them thus putting our lives into danger.
There are many sources of pollution according to the current report from blacksmith institute and environment group. The first source is industries. They use petroleum products which are fossils. When these fossils burn, harmful gases like CO2 which are not friendly to our environment and health are released. They cause respiratory problems and cancer.Noise is another source of pollution which brings hearing problems to living things. It is caused by heavy machines in the industries and airplanes. Plastic materials thrown to the environment from households pollute the environment because they are not biodegradable. (Turk.2011)
The other sources of pollution are sewerages from hospitals and houses especially in big cities. These wastes are released into the rivers which we depend on for clean waters for drinking. Mining has also caused a lotof pollution to the environment around. Other sources of pollution are; battery recycling, metal smelting and welding (John, 1994). The top five chemicals released to the environment are; mercury from mining industries, Carbon gases, Nitrogen gases, Sulphur gases.
There are forty eight superfund sites in the country which need attention. In my area we have; American lake gardens, Bangor Naval Submarine Base, Commencement bay near shore, commencement bay near south Tacoma channel, Fort Lewis logistic center, Hidden Valley landfill and lake wood site. I am going to sensitize peopleto stop throwing garbage and plastic materials. I would also encourage them to keep them in good disposal places and stop burning them directly.Due to the negative impact caused by industrial disposal of waste, I would ask the government to encourage industries to use environmental friendly sources of energy like electricity.Through environmental organizations, I would encourage companies performing sewage services to treat waste products in order to use them in the production of other products. Finally, I would ask people to adapt the use of biodegradable materials since this would reduce pollution to a great extent.
