Mission
My university is an open-access, public utility, comprehensive community institution that advances the lifelong educational growth of the residents and empowers economic and socio-cultural values of the community. To facilitate learning, teaching, service and student excellence, the institution provides innovative, standard quality, and relevant associate, certificate, and career-oriented educational programs and services. At the epicenter of all operations, the university management serves the public’s interest via wise planning and use of human, fiscal, and physical resources.
Guiding Principles
The university the following guiding beliefs;
Accountability; efficiency and effectiveness are ascertained for through the wise execution of human, fiscal, and physical services.
Accessibility- residents are open to opportunities of reaching and realizing their full potential in higher education.
Cooperation- formation of a partnership and working well with other institutions ensures achievement of common goals.
Diversity- creativity and performance is critical towards the individuals and their ideas.
Excellence- quality is achieved by evaluating the information gathered through continuous assessment, planning, and implementation process.
Integrity- success is realized in an environment of openness, honesty, trust, and fairness, where individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
The university looks forward to increasing accessibility to educational and public service program for students in designated poorly represented populations.
Objective 1; utilize access and diverse resources to implement best practices for ascending participation levels of traditionally poorly represented populations.
Diversity Student Success Goal
The university promotes under-represented student success through retention, graduation, and career development strengths.
Objective 2: enrich student support services to augment under-represented students in achieving their career and academic goals.
Objective 3: offer scholarship opportunities for student from inferior populations.
Diversity Quality Goal
The university will provide services and quality programs that are culturally diverse.
Objective 4: improve on creative activities, mission-specific, and programs that ensure a campus-wide knowhow and appreciation of diversity.
Access Goal
Increase accessibility to educational programs and public service programs: the university is scheduled to increase educational as well as public service programs for all the enrolling students in the designated poorly represented populations. This will enhance equity and the number of the enrolling students in the universities.
Objective 5: ensure utilization access and diversity in resources to implement viable practices for increasing participation levels of traditionally underrepresented populations.
2015 target objective; 7.5% increase in intake of students from designated underrepresented populations.

Objective 6: enhance student participation services to support underrepresented students in completing their set objectives on academic and career goals.

2015 target; 2% increase in graduation persistence and graduation rates targeted populations.

Institutional Budget Plans
Objective 7: provide scholarship platform for students from underrepresented populations
2015 target: scholarships to be awarded to at least 15 students from underrepresented populations on academic merit.
Strategies;
- 2010-2011: ensure smooth implementation of the scholarship program with funds from Red Cross in order to eradicate barriers facing students from underrepresented student populations. - 2011-2012: ensure revision on the access and diversity scholarship guidelines (Vice President {student affairs})
- 2012- 2013: awarding annual access and diversity scholarship avenues using revised scholarship criterion (Vice President [student affairs])
- 2012-2013: assess enrollment and matriculation of scholarship students (Vice President {Student affairs}, Dean of enrollment management)
- 2012-2013: assess and if need be; ensure modification of strategies to increase number of students from underrepresented populations participating in the diversity and assess scholarship program (Vice President {Student Affairs})
Resources can be sourced from; assess and diversity scholarship funds, institutional budgets.
Quality Goal
Ensure maximum provision of quality programs and services that are excellence oriented.
Objective 8: enhance creative activities, mission specific, and programs that promote a campus-wide appreciation and understanding of diversity.
Target goals;
- Two new mission specific and creative activities for the identified underrepresented populations, to be presented annually.
- At least, two courses to be added or revised annually in the available curriculum
- At least one annual diversity training opportunity
- Prepare a functional, up to date diversity resource oriented website
Strategies;

2010-2011: assess the number and quality of creative programs and activities consuming inputs from staff and faculty, and get the respective feedback from the advisory council (Vice President {Institutional effectiveness})
2011-2012: design, develop and deliver professional development activities and capacity training for faculty, staff and students; this ensures increase in knowledge and deep understanding of campus diversity (President; Vice President {Student Affairs}, Vice President {Academic affairs}, Center for teaching excellence)
2012-2013: develop marketing, outreach and communications to support diversity initiatives (President {Marketing})
