Architectural design
The design is undertaken because of the quest to have better experience with the video management system. The system will can be categorized into two, input or output, if the role that each device is analyzed and it can either be software or hardware if the physical attributes are considered. The system can also be categorized basing on the mobility of the devices in the system. There are static devices and mobile devices. The mobile devices include the devices can use while they are on transit. A user will request for information from the system. There are various outputs from the system.
The system will also include such aspects as the wireless presenter that will allow for the control of the computer. The instructor’s machine will also be supplemented for with several input ports for AV from mobile devices such as laptops, iPad and iPod. When the mobile device is connected wirelessly by Apple TV, it will automatically take over the presentation without any glitches. The system will also enhance the control on audio/visual inputs. This will enable users to be able to send output generated from DVDs to other devices while presenting computer outputs to other devices. This device will be part of the new system. It is a new way of managing the various input devices in their working. The new Apple TV should connect to other system component using Wi-Fi. The external devices like iPods, iPods and laptops can be connected to the Apple TV using the Wi-Fi network available. This is an improvement in the new system.
The diagram can be shown below:
The main is the fundamental operating element that aids in realizing the main objective of the system. The input is the processes which help in taking the signal to the system. The output processes are what we get from the system. This is the audio and the video signals that we get from the plasma screens and the computer. There is also the laptop screen that we will get the signal. There is also the use o f the wireless devices like the iPads and iPods; they are categorized under the output devices. They are used to display the content that comes from the Apple TV device.
The processes can be presented in the form of a data flow diagram (DFD). The various procedures that are followed are shown in the DFD diagram.
Detailed design
Interaction between the devices
The input of the system will include the following items:
Product description
The ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter is a device that has been employed in the design of the system; it allows users of the system to share VGA inputs. The division of the VGA inputs is undertaken by the use of a push control button. This button will enable signals from different input VGA and the corresponding audio signal to be independently displayed on the screen. This will allow maximum flexibility and control. For the displays to be optimized and so as to be displayed in even longer distances, the ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter has inbuilt signal booster that enables it to transmit signals of up to distances of 210 ft from the point of display; with this transmission, the signal strength and quality is not compromised because of this capability and inbuilt strength. This is mixer which will be connected to the signals. This will mean that the signals a will all come to the mixer and then distributed to the screen. This way, it will be possible to select one signal from the output of the mixer.
Device list
- Mac mini is input 1
- Input 2 is the DVD, VCR player – the cables that will be used will be that of the s-cables
- Input 3 is the external laptop.
- Input 4 is the Apple TV.
- Output 1 is the computer screen that will be used by the lecturer
- Output 2 is the LCD projector screen
- Output 3 is the plasma screen that is on the right
- Output 4 is the plasma screen on the left.
Cables that will be used in the system
The system will make use of various cables which are described below:
- Mac mini cables -
The first cable that will be used is male to male VGA cable. The cables are used to connect between the Mac mini and to the female VGA cable in the mixer.
Connection – this cable is used to connect from the female VGA cable in the ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter to the Mac mini.
- Unlimited audio – 1100 -06 6 3.5 mm -
There is also the cable unlimited audio – 1100 06 6 that are 3.5 MM thick. They are used to connect the Mac mini to the mixer device output 1.
Connection: Use to connect the audio slot in the Mac mini to the ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter output 1
- cable matters gold plated premium -
There is also cable matters gold plated premium which will be used to connect HDMI to VGA female active adaptor.
Connection: It will be used to connect between the HDMI in the Apple TV to the VGA female slot in ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter.
- Sarbent RCA/S-Video/female VGA to the male VGA converter -
Another cable is Sarbent RCA/S-Video/female VGA to the male VGA converter.
Connection: Use to connect between the VCR video slot to the male slot in the ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter.
- S-video cable -
There is also the S-cable that will be used to connect from the converter to the DVD device.
Connection: Use to connect between video port in the ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter to the DVD.
- audio cables -
The last cables that will be used are the audio cables that will be used to connect between the converter and the DVD.
Connection: It will be used to connect for audio signals from the ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter to the DVD.
Detailed description of how the system works
The mixer, which is the main device, ST424MX 4x4 VGA Matrix Switcher/Splitter, has 4 VGA inputs and another 4 VGA output. These inputs and outputs will be used to connect all the computer screens, LCD projector screens, DVD/VCR, Apple TV, and DVD/VCR. There are four buttons that will be used for each input. For any display, there will be the pressing of two buttons. It will be required for one to press an output and an input button. An example is if someone presses input 1 and input 1, the display will be made to the computer screen. Pressing input 1 and output 2 and 3, the display will be made on the computer screen on the right hand plasma. Pressing output 4 and input 1, the display will be made on the left plasma. This will be the same results if we press input 1 and output 2 and 3. Pressing all the outputs and then input 1 will display the signals in all the screens.
The sound that the user will want to hear will have to be displayed on the computer screen. After this, you can display any input to the outputs of 2, 3, and 4. For the user to hear sound from either of the devices, external computer, DVD/VCR, computer screen or Apple TV, they will have to select the signal they want to have on the screen. Although this is the case, the user still has full control of the display they would want to display on the screen.
