There has been an inevitable trend among the youth, of imitating if not following in the actions of their adored celebrities, in regards to their style of talking, living, and the general behavioral aspect. Desmond- Harris’ story that was influenced by Tupac, commonly known as “Tupac and My Non- thug life” is a perfect example of celebrities influence in our lives. She perfectly describes how she adored Tupac’s artistry in music and his way of life by elaborating how much she was affected learning of his death. Her admiration of Tupac was not a hoax as it is visible in the fact that her mother described Tupac as her friend despite them not having a physical encounter in the past.
It is visible in Desmond- Harris’ autobiography that her admiration of Tupac’s thug life and artistry in music was not just influenced by his personality, rather by the fact that Tupac fought to bring into perspective the fact that racism existed and was a menace that needed to be eradicated. His fame and fortune brought about a sense of realization in Desmond- Harris’ life in the fact that she experienced a tough life in her sophomore years and most probably her entire college year being a student that comes from a minority background, and being in a school that was highly dominated by the white community. It is in Tupac’s music that Desmond- Harris gained the courage to embrace the racism that she faced in college and engaged in activities that were previously deemed to be reserved for the white community in the school. In my honest opinion I can conclusively state that this autobiography is a living proof that famous people or celebrities can help shape peoples’ lives, and bring a positive impact in the entire community.
