- Is the so called developed world, in fact overdeveloped? Is this the standard to which the rest of the world can or should aspire or is it an unsustainable level that over consumes resources, food and energy?
A procedure is a sign of development, in which new techniques are introduced in the society by the current systems of reproduction and production. The development strategy is based on environmental resources, gender, class and several other axes of inequality.
I think current pattern of growth isn’t an ideal model for overdeveloped countries to follow developed countries that are in need of massive or constant wasteful consumption of natural resources. We need to introduce new sustainable development technique to achieve harmonization in the relationship between human society, nature and humankind.
- What aspects of well-being are not included in either the economic or the human welfare dimensions of development? People can be rich in family and in a sense of community but poor in the standard measures of development. What aspects of life do our standard measures of development emphasize? What aspects are ignored?
The borderless society has taken place due to the globalization of the world economy. However, this will not decrease the differences between communities in several regions. To see the effect of development on the macro level of income production will add to the scale of the village, household, individual and family. These are the main aspects that needs to be set criteria for measuring development standards. As, without considering these aspects, biases will be created among the society that will lead to harsh reality of oppression and poverty.
- Should we try to reach more global equity, or are the large differences in levels of development just the way the world supposed is to be? In other words, are global inequalities, “natural”, and therefore they will just exist, so why bother?
The critics point out that globalization has its benefit, but only for the wealthy nations. In which those nations are able to control production procedure and resources around the world. Moreover, globalization is the major reason of abuse among the rights of human and workers. The abuse occurs due to the presence of unpleasant and lowest paying jobs that are offered to the workers. This is the major reason in building inequality and poverty among societies through globalization.
- Do high levels of population growth enhance or reduce the development prospects of poor countries?
It is true that developed countries are progressing better as compared to others. The biggest example is the industrial revolution that started 200 years ago. The biggest impact was on those who failed to achieve the wave of success and were colonized by the western powers. The present history is highlighting towards immensely powerful competition among nations. Those countries that stay behind and couldn’t lead the competition are one trapped with poverty and misery.
- Why do you think the industrial and scientific revolutions emerged first in Europe, allowing Europe to colonize much of the world and decimate other populations with their weapons, germs, etc.?
The interesting fact is that when India established itself, as an independent state, the first question arises was how people will match with the Britain living standards. It was replied by Gandhi as “to achieve this standard of living for the population England needs to colonize the whole earth”.
Further, the response came that if other populations needs to attain the similar standards, it need to imagine the amount of earth, it would acquire to colonize the huge population.
