According to the occurrence, the girl was treated as to have committed a felonious crime. Despite the seriousness of the crime, she pleaded guilty before the court since she didn’t deny the charges against her. She had killed the Leesburg woman involuntarily since she was over speeding. Her conduct is attributed to the liquor she had taken back in school as they were cheering a football game. In the frenzy, she happened to get intoxicated above the required extent of drunkenness.
As much as she was on the wrong, her actions were involuntary. It was also reported that was a couple of adults tailgating at the school whilst drinking. However, when the judgment is passed, it focuses on the girl alone. The treatment that the girl received is quite unfair. It is not fair when L Brooks suspended her detainment to September 2011 when she is 21 despite the fact that she had been sentenced to 30 days imprisonment with 500 community service hours.
The first sentence on the other hand appeared very lenient since it was just a single month imprisonment for killing a grown woman. This is why Pamela Brooks suspends the hearing to September when the girl is expected to be of age. Pamela Brooks makes the world a hot place for the girl with her judgment. This is shown from the her reluctance to give a credit even after her serving 38 days and even pleading guilty for involuntary manslaughter.
As if this is not enough, suspension of the punitive part of the case sees through her revoking the girl’s license and also ordering her to pay $5000 to cater for the funeral expenses. As much as she is on the wrong, the judgment against her is quite heavy for the crime committed. This is because even the woman’s family was lenient on the girl and only demanded the girl to cater for half of the funeral’s expenses since their concern was the rehabilitation of the girl enabling others to learn from her. The judgment however had a high degree of deviance.
