Czech PM Says Ready to Protect Balkan Borders in Migrant Crisis
For my summary essay I have chosen the article Czech PM Says Ready to Protect Balkan Borders in Migrant Crisis written by Robert Muller for the New York Times Journal. In this article, the main topic is the problem of the influx of illegal economic migrants in European countries and the effectiveness of measures taken by the European government, especially it concerns Syrian and Greek illegal refugees. The author writes that the leaders of the Central European countries are ready to help Balkan countries to close their borders with Greece and to stop the movement of migrants across the continent. Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said that the law enforcement of the Visegrad Four (Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia) was already helping at the Macedonian border, and they were ready to increase their assistance if it was necessary. According to Slobotka, the agreement of the EU and Turkey to reduce the flow of migrants to Europe has not demonstrated any effectiveness. The Syrian refugees come to Turkey and Greek refugees come to EU countries. Despite the objections from Germany, which believes that the boundaries blocking will worsen the situation in Greece, the countries of the Visegrad Group will discuss on Monday in Prague their plans how to stop the refugees. Sobotka also called the EU members to return as soon as possible the migrants who are denied official status to the country of their origin. Thus, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic believes that Europe needs a migration policy that will have clear rules, the implementation of which could be provided, with the possibility of stopping the economic migrants at the external borders of the EU. Therefore, the Visegrad Group is ready to help ensure the European migration safety.
