This study focused on finding information related to the progression and development of T2DM and the risk of glaucoma among other complications from the Maastricht study. Individuals aged 45 years and above with DM from the Maastricht study were included. A total of 2855 patients successfully completed the tests (83.7%) while 555 people failed to do so (16.3%). 1461 were males (51%) while 1394 were females (49%). Three groups of diabetic population were included in the study namely: normal (n = 1406), pre-diabetic (n = 386), and T2DM (n = 683). Chi-square tests were conducted with significance level at 0.095 and alpha coefficient at 0.05. In general, it was found that a person’s glucose tolerance status has an impact on the risk of developing glaucoma, with people who have Type II DM have higher risk of developing glaucoma compared to those whose glucose tolerance status are normal and pre-diabetic. It is important to note that the current significance level and alpha coefficient ratings, there is not a statistically significant association between T2DM and the risk of glaucoma. Focusing on the significance of the relationship between the variables, the results of the Normal and T2DM group were not significant. Pre-Diabetic and T2DM showed significant results based on the variable analysis. The authors of the study were also able to describe the correlation between the duration of an individual’s T2DM and the risk of developing glaucoma. No significant correlation was found between the two as evidenced by the P value of 0.178 which was greater than the alpha level at 0.05.
