- What elements contribute to an effective learning environment at the grade level you expect to teach?
I expect to teach young children who are just starting school i.e. early childhood development. An effective learning environment for young children is one that allows them to explore different things so that they can learn as much as they can. Therefore, it is important that there is a playground where they can play since they also get bored easily (Cangelosi 67). Young children do not need to be at their desks reading the entire day. Rather, they have to be given a wide variety of choices in things that they can do. They need to be in an environment where they can interact with children and where they can interact with other people and learn new things. The most important factor at this level is to ensure that the child can explore as many possibilities as possible.
2. How you would prevent serious discipline problems at the grade level you expect to teach.
At this level, most children are keen in what the adults tell them. They can absorb a good or any bad behavior that they are exposed to. Therefore, as a first measure, it is important that they are surrounded by people who have good morals and those that can be good examples to them. Bad behavior can easily be punished by restricting use of a favorite toy or a favorite activity. This way they learn to associate bad behavior with withdrawal of privileges (Cangelosi 45). At this stage, children also like to be praised. If good behavior is appreciated, then the child is likely to do the right thing, and when bad behavior is reprimanded, they are likely not to repeat it.
