The broadcast journalists have a responsibility to enclose the current news, events, issues, and trends, and convey them to the common people. Digital era has brought a revolution in the broadcasting technique as well. The new method of broadcasting involves online method or television. Prior to television, radio was once a means of digital broadcasting after the method of printing.
In the course, I have learned the fundamentals of digital broadcasting. Since, the digital involvement in the news brings the images, videos, and sound which are the addition in broadcasting. The principles and fundamentals which make the basis of digital broadcasting should be understood. Therefore, these points were covered in the course. I studied the appropriate technique of covering an event or news. This course helped me understand the television production processes and various task associated with these processes. In addition, the course explained the technique to catch the appropriate and required shots and videos along with the principles necessary for the research of the news story. Moreover, in order to prepare a complete story, the important questions which could assist in determining the main facts of the story are planned and recorded by making sure the affectivity of sound. I learned to edit the completed story by selecting the right images which were clicked from suitable angles and constructing the words efficiently to define the news or event. Moreover, the words for an interview should be liberal yet reveal the truth. Consequently, the assortment of words was studied. The story has an impact if, it contains the correct sound effects. Therefore, this course taught me the execution of sound for various types and genres of news and events.
This course helps in understanding the role of a journalist in broadcasting the news. Since, the journalist is a person who is responsible for showing a picture of news and events to the people. Therefore, journalists have an important role which should be fulfilled with sincerity, honesty, and devotion. Correspondingly, the news selected and the edition or treatment which is conducted on the news should be carried out wisely because journalist educates the people and provide them awareness regarding the issues. In order to select right news, journalist must gather information and evaluate its authenticity. Moreover, the edition of the news or event must not manipulate the outcomes and amend the nature of the news. This course in addition taught the legal points which are required to be considered in journalism. The ethics of journalism were enclosed in this course. This ethics bound the journalist to be honest with the people whom they interview or provide the news. I understand the fact that a journalist should inform the people before collecting the information related to an event or accident. Furthermore, they should conduct an extensive research concerning the news and never provide the news story to the people which is based on superficial research. This is an ethical right of the viewers to get the truth only.
I got the knowledge regarding the importance of the social and convergent media through learning this course. The course evaluates the advancement in journalism produced due to the websites, blogs, computers, and other communications methods. The news can be spread in a short span with the use of social media. Moreover, the social media help the people to raise their concerns and share their opinion related to an issue. In this way, people are connected and can be united for or against a particular issue or problem.
