After basic online IT assessment necessary for caregivers I would conclude that the skills gained in the process are as essential as electronic health records (HER). Both information technology and EHR training form an important aspect of healthcare management as the latter complements the former. The world is moving towards information age where basic computer knowledge plays a vital role and to keep up with such changes; it is a requirement to train medical employees on the modern information technology. For example, teaching on the primary computer skills will familiarize workers with elementary skills used in understanding other complex systems like the interpretation of information from electronic health records. Fundamental skills like locating files in a computer, use of CD-ROM, use of pointer devices like a mouse among others are essential at this time and age when paper hospitals and medical facilities move from paperwork to use of computers.
A common challenge that IT and EHR implementation face is by the staff as not all would embrace training on this modern technology. Some of the medical providers along the way will oppose such moves, and this is mostly present when introducing a topic then a technical hitch occurs. The best solution is, if the facilities budget allows, then the trainers should get to speed by either seeing the staff twice a week or letting them go to a community college where they will gain the necessary skills.
