Norms are set of social behaviors that are accepted in the society. Psychologically, it is defined as those rules that a social sect employs for appropriate or inappropriate behaviors or values. They are those behaviors that guide one on his/her relation with others. Norms change with time and from one social group to another. For example, the mode of dressing that was witnessed ten years ago within a given social group is totally different to what is seen today. In addition, a given dressing mode of a given social group may not be accepted in another social group (Kelly, Gale, Wheeler, & Tucker, 2007).
It is through norms that a person gains popularity and acceptance in a given social setting. If a person within a given goes against the norms, he either be rejected or disowned. The social norms are created and preserved through non- verbal or body signs. The nature has it that human behavior is dictated by surrounding environment. At the maturity level, one chooses appropriate language and certain words to either use or not use in discussing the relevant ideas. In this case therefore, norms are dictated by maturity of a person and a group that one fall in.
According to an article published by School of Education students were termed as digital natives. The article elaborates more on technology. It majorly emphasizes on interactions and proper use of the available technologies that have always been part and parcel of their everyday life. The kind of technology that the entire institution has put in place is to try and impart the knowledge to the students on how to make good use technology as a way of presenting and creating a collaborative text and to demonstrate the proper use of podcasting and vodcasting, this being the culture that Liberty University was trying to adapt.
The article is aimed at describing the procedures of a design in question. The students are taken through various lessons and lectures so as to develop new skills so as to facilitate an active and social process that appreciates the importance of using technologies being a culture that is introduced in the institution.
In 1994, Cunningham came up with a wiki that enabled programmers to communicate effectively. In real sense wiki is a community based work that assist them create ideas at any given time with an aim of improving communication amongst students and the management.
Students went through a number of lessons. With the introduction of wiki technology, students have been anxious on using audio recording and editing software. However much expectations much from the management a number of students expressed fears on presenting poor quality of audio and video or even creates faulty wiki pages to their peers.
The instructors empowered their students to learn wiki technology in their course. Students were also thought on how to protect their wiki pages. Teachers stressed on the importance academic integrity. Students who took risk in creating wiki assignment benefited that than those who feared to take risks (O'Shea, Baker, & Kidd, 2008).
Management embrace the use of modern technology for example the wiki pages, this has enabled students to easily access the services from the institution. Instructors divided the students into various groups, these has enabled the teachers to attend all the learners with ease. Groups have also promoted teamwork in the university.
Being in the management, one realizes the need of being a risk taker, as viewed in the article, those who took risk enjoyed a great deal as compared to those who are fearful as far as class work is concern. Good results were obtained as there was a good student-instructor relation. In addition, any organization should relate well with its external environment.
