The federal emergency management agency involves all stakeholders in disaster management. All individuals, governmental bodies and non- governmental organizations all take part in community disaster management. The whole community is keen to ensure that they are safe and protected. FEMA`s whole community concept is inline with the well being of the community with the rising number of threats to human lives (Concern Worldwide, U.S, 2015). Disaster management strategic goals are to reduce the number of deaths, injuries and the impact of disasters. The federal government strategizes on how to plan, control and react to threats and risks which is a great role in disaster risk management. FEMA ensures safety and protection of its citizens against threats in its jurisdiction (HFA, 2015)
The FEMA whole community concept has its policy requirements as per the public safety act. One of the requirements is that the agency should include in its emergency plan actions that outage and guard significant infrastructure within its jurisdiction. Federal institutions have emergency management plans that they communicate to the public to ensure continued co-ordination and accelerated decision making .Continuous review and evaluation of emergency plan is always done to ensure that the agency is at par with the emerging threats.
The disasters that the agency is concerned with include famine, drought, fire and fatal diseases being some of the familiar cases. Federal governments collaborate with non governmental institutions such as the Red Cross in disaster risk reduction for the organizations role is concurrent with that of the FEMA community concept. Both organizations ensure that everyone is involved in decision making and the overall mitigation of impending disaster. I have ensured that I am well informed on the major causes of disasters .Coordination, preparedness, support and guidance are the precise tools to disaster risk management.
