What are the different kinds of questions and approaches the various disciplines employ to get at driving questions about the world and human experiences?
Different disciplines use different approaches to get at driving questions about the world and human experiences. Most disciplines however emphasize on a worldwide perspective of solving problems. Disciplines focus on different perspectives throughout the world to draw questions on human experiences. Moreover, students are encouraged to conduct their research from broad sources What are the values of academic disciplines? What are the disadvantages?
Academic disciplines provide the basis for instructions used in education. Secondly, academic units provide a deep, concrete knowledge in a specific field as well as broad knowledge in other fields(Hyland and Bondi, 72). This enables students to be educated broadly and deeply, increasing the knowledge and skills.
Disadvantages
Academic disciplines result in excess compartmentalization, which may sometimes lead to confusion especially to people who are new to the system
Some disciplines are closely related and may be difficult to distinguish.
Second, some questions about your own research and how it relates to disciplines:What is your discipline, if you have one?
My discipline is law. What are the different disciplines that you might draw on?
I draw knowledge from political science, medicine, and history. History affects the manner in which the field of law has changed over the years to become what is today. Politics shapes the laws of any particular country, since the political body that makes most laws in any given country. The field of medicine is closely related to law in matters concerning the ethical practices that govern medicine. Past cases can be drawn from medicine and can help in solving current cases in the medicine field.Do you think you will work mostly within a discipline or mostly across disciplines? Why?
I will work mostly across disciplines. Law is a diverse discipline. It cuts across all disciplines since people who break the law are from all disciplines. This therefore calls for me to have a broad knowledge of other disciplines that I am likely to deal with to solve the cases that may arise knowledgeably.
