Summary of the article
The article quotes a report that seems to indicate that individuals who are gays, lesbians, bisexual or transgender do not often enjoy the same rights or privileges’ in the workplaces as their counterparts who are straight. Although these two individuals may be in the same job bracket, the LGBTQ worker could yet be subject to legal firing, denial of equal benefits and could in addition be required to pay more in terms of taxes simply due to the nature of their sexual orientation.
Importance of the item
The issues explored in this article cannot be overemphasized. Most people would be aware of this but members of the LGBTQ community do actually face a lot of discrimination in the work places and the article helps to put this into light. This is an extremely important issue that should be looked at immediately.
Members of the LGBTQ community should be accorded the same rights as their straight counterparts. Doing this does not necessarily mean that homosexual behaviors or transgender activities are being tolerated; it is simply a matter of enacting fairness and equality in the workplace. The issue or item in the article is very important therefore because it helps to expose the general rot of the society, specifically homophobic employers, who are mistreating their fellow human beings in the name of LGBTQ activities opposition.
